AKSETIN antibiotic. It belongs to a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins. This type of antibiotics like penicillin. Cefuroxime axetil kills bacteria and can be used with different types of infections.
Like all antibiotics, cefuroxime axetil is effective only against certain types of bacteria. Therefore, it is suitable only for treating certain types of infections. Cefuroxime axetil can be used to treat:
ear infections (otitis media), nose (sinusitis), and throat infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis);
chest infections such as bronchitis;
infections of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (such as furuncles, impetigo - infection of the skin);
Lyme disease early (from a tick bite) and for the prevention of late complications in adults and children over the age of 12.
Do not take AKSETIN
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefuroxime axetil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (see "Further information");
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any other cephalosporin antibiotic group;
If you have had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic penicillanic group.
Not all people who are allergic to penicillins are also allergic to cephalosporins.
However, you should not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic of the penicillin group. This is because you may be allergic, as well as to the drug.
If you are unsure about anything, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take special care with AKSETIN
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin, tell your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine;
If you have severe or persistent diarrhea while taking or after taking cefuroxime axetil - consult your doctor and take medicines for diarrhea that inhibit peristalsis;

Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
In some cases, medications may affect the way other medicines work. This is the case when Aksetin used with:
Drugs that reduce stomach acidity (medicines for heartburn);
Some other medicines to prevent or control infections (antibiotics), such as tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, aminoglycosides;
Probenecid (a medicine used to treat gout and other diseases). Taking this medication with Aksetin can lead to high and persistent levels of cefuroxime in the blood and bile;
Tablets or injections for drainage (diuretics);
Some medicines for fungal infections (Amphotericin);
Some tests, such as tests to determine the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood or urine;
Some tests, such as tests for determining some substances in your blood (test Coombs).
Taking axetil with food and drink
Take this medicine after meals. This is because it helps the medicine is absorbed into the body.
Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant! Although it is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn child, it will be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed;

The usual doses are:
Adults and children over 12 years:

Infections of the lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia: 1 tablet Aksetin 500 mg twice daily for 5-10 days.
For bladder infections: 125 mg or 250 mg cefuroxime axetil twice daily for 5-10 days.
For skin infections: 1 tablet Aksetin 250 mg or 500 mg twice daily for 5-10 dnpati daily for 5-10 days.
For the treatment of Lyme disease in its early stages: 1 tablet Aksetin 500 mg twice daily for 20 days.
Children aged between 5 and 12 years:
In the situations listed above: 125 mg or 250 mg cefuroxime axetil twice daily for 5-10 days.
In acute otitis media: 1 tablet Aksetin 250 mg twice daily for 5-10 days.
In children under 5 years of age are recommended for use containing cefuroxime suspension.
There is no experience with use of cefuroxime axetil in children under 3 months of age.
If you take more than the dose AKSETIN
If you take more than the dose of medicine, consult your doctor or go to casualty at your nearest hospital. Take your medicine in the carton so that staff know exactly what you have. Overdose of Aksetin can lead to seizures.
If you forget to take AKSETIN

swelling of eyelids, face or lips;
severe skin rash, which may take the form of blisters and can affect the eyes, mouth, throat and genitals;
loss of consciousness (fainting);
severe diarrhea, or if you notice blood in loose stools.
All of these reactions require emergency medical intervention. If you think you have any of these kinds of effects, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor or the emergency department at your nearest hospital.
Common side effects (affecting less than 1 in 10 people) include:
Fever and feeling unwell shortly after taking cefuroxime axetil for treatment of Lyme disease (reaction Jarisch-Herxheimer);
Stomach problems: diarrhea, nausea and vomiting;
Skin rash with or without itching and hard lumps (hives);
Renal and urinary problems: if you are informed that your kidneys are not working well can cause changes in renal function (higher levels of creatinine and urea).
Uncommon side effects (affecting less than 1 in 100) include:
Nervous system disorders: headache, dizziness;
Kidneys and urinary tract: blood in urine, fever and pain in the hip area (acute interstitial nephritis).
Rare side effects (affecting less than 1 in 1000 people) include:

General: drug fever.
Very rare side effects (affecting less than 1 in 10,000 people) include:
Blood and lymphatic system disorders: anemia (type of anemia caused by destruction of red blood cells);
Nervous system: restlessness, nervousness, confusion;
Liver and biliary tract: yellow skin or eyes (jaundice);
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: rash with irregular red (wet) spots (eritemamultiferme).
Some tests for the determination of certain substances in your blood may show different results while taking cefuroxime axetil (test Coombs).
