The active substance is AKSEF cefuroxime (as cefuroxime axetil), which belongs to the second generation cephalosporins. Cefuroxime is a bactericidal antibiotic that kills the bacteria that cause infections.
AKSEF tablets is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible bacteria:
Infections of the lower respiratory tract infections: acute bronchitis, exacerbated chronic bronchitis and pneumonia (lung infection)
Infections of the upper respiratory tract: ENT infections, otitis media (inflammation) of the middle ear, sinusitis (inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (sinus)), tonsillitis (tonsillitis) and pharyngitis (acute inflammation of the eaters)
Urogenital infections: pyelonephritis (bacterial inflammation of the kidney and its pelvis), cystitis (inflammation of the lining of the bladder, which is manifested by frequent urination, pain during urination, blood and bacteria in urine, pelvic pain) and inflammation the urethra caused by microorganisms, manifested by itching, burning, pain during urination
Infections of skin and soft tissue infections: furunculosis (boils presence of retained longer and tend to recur), pyoderma (bacterial skin infection most commonly caused by staphylococci or streptococci, the main symptom suppuration) and impetigo (acute infectious disease of the skin, accompanied by bubbles, which were later covered with a crust)
Gonorrhoea (a sexually transmitted disease known as gonorrhea): acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the cervix)
Early Lyme disease (a bacterial infectious disease caused by a spirochete kind and spread through a tick bite) and prevent the subsequent development of late stage disease in adults and children over 12 years.
Do not take AKSEF
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefuroxime to other antibiotics such as cephalosporins or to any of the excipients of AKSEF. An allergic reaction may be recognized by the presence of: rash, itching, redness of skin and difficulty breathing.
Take special care with AKSEF
Cephalosporin antibiotics can generally be applied in patients hypersensitivity to penicillins, although cross-reactivity was demonstrated. If you have had allergic reactions to penicillin, tell your doctor because you need to pay special attention. It will consider developing clinically significant allergic reaction and whether the drug should be discontinued and appropriate therapy initiated.
When taking a long cefuroxime, as with other broad-spectrum antibiotics can cause the development of non-susceptible organisms (eg, fungi) that may require discontinuation. If you develop diarrhea during or after antibiotic, tell your doctor as this may be due to pseudomembranous colitis.
Patients on hemodialysis should be noted that the product is removed by hemodialysis. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease.
After the treatment of Lyme disease cefuroxime was observed reaction Jarisch-Herxheimer. It is due to the bactericidal activity of cefuroxime to the agent of Lyme disease spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Patients should be reassured that this is often transient consequence of antibiotic treatment of Lyme disease.
If you examine your urine for sugar or you are having other laboratory tests (eg for determination of glucose in the blood, liver function test or Coombs), tell your doctor or medical laboratory that take AKSEF as the antibiotic can affect research results.
Use in children and adolescents
AKSEF tablets can be administered to children younger than 2 years of age.
Use in adult patients with renal impairment
No special precautions for patients with renal impairment or in those on hemodialysis or in elderly patients if the daily dose of the drug did not exceed 1 g.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Together with other antibiotics, cefuroxime may affect the gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption (a group of hormones secreted by the ovaries) and reducing the effectiveness of collaborative applications oral contraceptives (birth control pills).
Co-administration with probentsid causes increased levels of cefuroxime in plasma due to decreased renal excretion.
Use of AKSEF with food and drink
For optimal absorption AKSEF tablets should be taken after food.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Before taking AKSEF is important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
No experimental data embriopatichno or teratogenic effects due to cefuroxime, but as with all medicines, it should be used with caution during the early months of pregnancy.
Cefuroxime passes into breast milk and as a result, breastfeeding AKSEF should be used with caution.
Driving and operating machinery
In the case of dizziness, do not drive or use any tools or machines.

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years:

Pharyngitis, laryngitis, sinusitis 250 mg 2 times a day 10 days
Acute bronchitis 250 mg or 500 mg two times daily 5-10 days
Exacerbate chronic bronchitis 250 mg or 500 mg two times a day 10 days
pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, 125 mg or 250 mg two times daily 7-10 days
Infections of skin and soft tissue:
furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo 250 mg or 500 mg two times a day 10 days
Gonorrhea single 1000 mg single dose
Early Lyme disease 500 mg 2 times a day 20 days
The usual dose is 125 mg twice daily or 10 mg / kg twice daily as the daily dose should not exceed 250 mg. In children older than 2 years with otitis 250 mg twice daily or 15 mg / kg twice daily as the daily dose should not exceed 500 mg.
AKSEF tablets should be swallowed without chewing, to avoid a change in taste.
If you take more than the dose AKSEF
It is dangerous if you take more than the prescribed dose AKSEF, unless you take the entire contents at once. In this case, immediately go to the nearest hospital and taking medicine or packaging with you or call your doctor.
Do not exceed the recommended dose and duration of treatment.
If you forget to take AKSEF
If you forget to take your tablet AKSEF soon as you remember unless e
very close to the next dose. If this happens, skip the intake and take the next tablet as you follow the prescribed treatment.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.
If you stop taking AKSEF
Do not stop treatment before they have completed the full course of treatment even if you feel better. You may not have healed completely and some of the symptoms to recur.

Like all medicines, AKSEF can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Adverse reactions to cefuroxime are usually mild and transient.
Common adverse reactions that were reported in more than 1 in every 100 patients but less than 1 in 10 patients are:
Candidiasis (thrush) in long (infection of the vagina, mouth or skin caused by fungi drozhdepodobni)
Eosinophilia (formation and accumulation of extra-large white blood cells)
Gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain)
Transient increases in liver function tests
Uncommon side effects that have been reported in more than 1 in 1,000 patients but less than 1 in every 100 patients are:
Reduction in the number of platelets in the blood, which may increase the tendency to bleed or - bruising, reduce the number of white blood cells, which increases the likelihood of infection
Rare side effects that have been reported in more than 1 in 10,000 patients, but less than 1 in 1,000 patients are:
Skin rash with redness and itching
Pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the large intestine, causing abdominal pain and diarrhea)
Very rare side effects that have been reported in less than 1 in 10,000 patients, are:
Hemolytic anemia (reduction in red blood cells that can cause paleness or yellowing of the skin, weakness, or shortness of breath)
Drug fever, serum sickness, allergic reaction that occurs rapidly and is manifested by redness, itching, swelling, shock
Jaundice (yellow skin and whites of the eyes and mucous membranes), hepatitis (liver inflammation)
Erythema multiforme syndrome, Stevens-Johnson (serious illness accompanied by blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals), toxic epidermal necrolysis (exanthemous necrolysis) - allergic reactions affecting the skin and mucous membranes and are characterized by blistering and flaking
