WHAT AKISTAN AND WHAT IT IS USED
Akistan belongs to a group of medicines known as prostaglandin analogues. Medicinal product works by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from inside the eye to the blood stream.
Akistan be used to treat conditions known as open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Both conditions are associated with increased pressure in the eye and may affect your vision.
Akistan also be used for the treatment of ocular hypertension and glaucoma in children and babies of all ages.
2. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU USE AKISTAN
Akistan can be used by men and women (including the elderly) and children from birth to 18 years of age. Akistan not been studied in babies born prematurely (before the 36th week of gestation).
Do not use Akistan:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to latanoprost or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor, the doctor treating your child or pharmacist before using Akistan or give it to your child if you think any of these apply to you or your child:
If you or your child have or have had eye surgery (including cataract surgery);
If you or your child suffer from eye problems (such eye pain, irritation and inflammation, blurred vision);
If you know that you or your child suffer from dry eyes;
If you or your child have severe asthma, or your asthma is not well controlled;
If you or your child wear contact lenses. You can use Akistan but follow the instructions for wearing contact lenses in point 3.
Other medicines and Akistan
The interaction of other drugs with Akistan possible. Please tell your doctor, the doctor treating your child or pharmacist if you or your child are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines (or eye drops) obtained without a prescription.
Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you think you might be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Akistan Do not use if you are pregnant.
Do not use Akistan if you are breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
When using Akistan, your vision may be blurred for a short time. If this happens, do not drive or use any tools or machines until your vision becomes clear again.
Akistan contain the preservative benzalkonium chloride.
This preservative can cause eye irritation or disruption of the surface of the eye. Benzalkonium chloride may be absorbed by contact lenses and is known to discolour soft contact lenses. Therefore avoid contact with soft contact lenses.
If you or your child wear contact lenses, they must be removed before using Akistan. Wait at least 15 minutes before inserting contact lenses again. See the instructions for contact lens wear in point 3.
3. HOW TO USE AKISTAN
Always use this medicine exactly as you have been told by your doctor, or the doctor treating your child. If you are unsure ask your doctor, the doctor treating your child or pharmacist. The recommended dose for adults (including the elderly) and children is one drop once a day in the affected eye (s). The best time for this is the night.
The following steps will help you on the proper use of Akistan
1. Wash your hands and sit or stand comfortably.
2. Unscrew the cap.
3. Gently pull down the lower eyelid with a finger of the affected eye.
4. Place the tip of the bottle close to, but not touching your eye.
5. Squeeze the bottle gently so that affected your eye to only one drop, then release the lower eyelid.
6. Press your finger against the corner of the affected eye. Hold for one minute while keeping your eyes closed.
7. Repeat this procedure for your other eye if your doctor has instructed to do so.
Insert and screw cap immediately after use, making sure it is tight fitting vial. Do not overdo it with the tightening of the cap. Dropper is designed to provide a pre-measured drop therefore, do not expand his hole. Added additional amount of Akistan, so you get a full dose prescribed by your doctor. Do not attempt to remove excess medicine from the vial.
If you wear contact lenses
Contact lenses should be removed before application of the drops and wait 15 minutes before putting them back.
If you use Akistan other eye drops
Wait at least five minutes between using Akistan and implementation of other eye drops.
If you use more than the amount Akistan
If you put more drops, you may experience mild irritation in the eye and your eyes may be tears and red. This should pass, but if you are worried ask your doctor or the doctor treating your child. Contact your doctor or the doctor treating your child if you accidentally swallowed Akistan.
If you forget to use Akistan
Continue to use your usual dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up the missed dose.
If you are unsure contact your doctor, the doctor treating your child or pharmacist.
If you stop using Akistan
Consult your doctor or the doctor treating your child if you want to stop using Akistan.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 patients:
Gradual change in the color of your eye, by increasing the amount of brown pigment in the colored part of the eye known as the iris. If your eyes are mixed color (blue-brown, gray-brown, yellow-brown or green-brown) are more likely to see this change than if you have eyes with homogeneous color (blue, gray, green or brown). The color change of the eye may occur after years, although typically is observed in the first 8 months of treatment. The change in color can be lasting and more noticeable if you use Akistan only in one eye. There are no known problems associated with the change in eye color. These changes are reversible after discontinuation of therapy;
Redness of the eye;
Eye irritation (burning sensation, sand in the eye, itching, foreign body sensation in the eye);
Gradually change eyelashes in the treated eye and the fine hairs around it. These changes include increasing the color (darkening), length, thickness and number of your eyelashes.
Common: affects 1 to 10 patients in 100:
Irritation or distortion of the surface of the eye, inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis) and eye pain.
Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 patients in 1000:
Swelling of the eyelids, dry eyes, inflammation or irritation of the surface of the eye (keratitis), blurred vision and conjunctivitis;
Rare: affects 1 to 10 patients in 10,000:
Inflammation of the iris, the colored part of the eye (iritis / uveitis); swelling of the retina (macular edema), symptoms of swelling or scratching / damage to the surface of the eye, swelling around the eyes (periorbital edema), improper direction of eyelash growth or extra row of eyelashes;
Skin reactions on the eyelids, darkening of the eyelid skin;
Asthma, exacerbation of existing asthma and shortness of breath (dyspnoea).
Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000:
Aggravation of angina in patients with cardiovascular diseases; Chest pain.
Not known: frequency can not be estimated from available data:
Patients have reported the following adverse reactions: filled with fluid area within the colored part of the eye (iris cyst), headache, dizziness, palpitations, muscle aches and joint pain.
Adverse reactions in children
Adverse reactions occurred more frequently in children compared to adults are runny nose, accompanied by itching and fever.

5. HOW TO STORE AKISTAN
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Akistan after the expiry date stated on the bottle label after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Before opening, store vials in the refrigerator at 2 ° C to 8 ° C.
Store in the original container to protect from light.
Do not store once open vial at temperatures above 25 ° C. Do not use Akistan later than four weeks after its initial opening, after that date should be unusable.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste.

6. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND OTHER INFORMATION
The active substance is latanoprost 50 micrograms / ml.
1 ml solution contains 50 micrograms latanoprost. One drop contains approximately 1.5 micrograms latanoprost.
Other ingredients are: benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium hydroxide and / or phosphoric acid, purified water.

Akistan is an aqueous ophthalmic solution (eye drops), sterile, isotonic. The buffered aqueous Akistan be used for administration to the eye.
