Your doctor has prescribed ZOCOR, to reduce the health risks associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD ) .
If you have coronary artery disease , diabetes, have had a stroke or have other vascular disease (regardless of the level of cholesterol in your blood ), ZOCOR:
Can prolong your life by reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke
Reduces the need for surgery aimed at increasing blood flow to the legs and main organs like the heart
Reduces the need for hospitalization due to chest pain ( called angina ) ZOCOR reduces the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol can cause Ischemic heart disease (IHD ) blocked blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to the heart. Clogging or hardening of the arteries is called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis can cause chest pain ( called angina ) and heart attack . ZOCOR also slows the progression of atherosclerosis and reduces the development of a new one .

3 . When should you not take ZOCOR?
Do not use ZOCOR if:
you are allergic to any of its ingredients

4 . Before you start treatment with ZOCOR?
Tell your doctor about any health problems koi_o have or have had in the past, as well as existing allergies.
Tell your doctor if you consume large amounts of alcohol and if you have a history of liver disease.
5 . Use in children
Safety and efficacy was studied in boys aged 10 to 17 years and girls who have started menstruating at least one year (see How should I take ZOCOR?). The use of ZOCOR has not been studied in children under 10 years of age. For more information , talk with your doctor .
6 . Use in pregnancy and lactation

7 Interaction with other drugs
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking or plan to take simultaneously with ZOCOR, including those bought without a prescription. • high doses ( > 1 gramdnevno ) niacin or nicotinic acid
It is also important to tell your doctor if you are taking anticoagulants (drugs that prevent blood clotting such as warfarin, phenprocou-mon or acenocoumarol) or fenofibrate, another fibric acid.
 8 . Dosage and method of administration
The doctor has prescribed your dose of ZOCOR.
For adults , the usual starting dose is 20 or 40 mg a day designated as a single dose in the evening. Your doctor can determine the dose to 80mg a day designated as a single dose in the evening.
Children (10 to 17 years) , the recommended usual starting dose is 10mg per day, taken in the evening . The maximum recommended dose is 40mg daily.
Your doctor may prescribe a drug in lower doses , especially if you are taking any of the medicines listed above, or suffering from certain kidney diseases . Do not stop your treatment with ZOCOR unless your doctor tells you to stop. If you stop taking ZOCOR, your cholesterol may rise again .
What should I do in case of overdose ?
Immediately contact your doctor.
What should I do if I forget to take a dose?
Try to take ZOCOR as prescribed. However if you forget to take a dose, do not take an extra dose. Just resume your usual regimen.
9. What side effects may have ZOCOR?
Each product may have unintended or undesirable effects , etc. side effects . Generally ZOCOR well tolerated. Most side effects are mild and transient. The most frequent side effects are indigestion . Rarely encounter weakness and headaches. Even more rare are muscle pain, weakness or faint , liver complaints and hypersensitivity (allergic reactions that may include other symptoms such as joint pain , fever, and dyspnea) .
If you experience muscle pain, weakness or faint , immediately consult your doctor. This is because on rare occasions , muscle problems can be serious, including muscle breakdown resulting in kidney damage.
The risk of muscle breakdown is greater in patients taking high doses of Zocor. The risk of muscle breakdown is greater in patients with impaired renal function.
