Bone is living tissue. Old bone is continuously extracted from the skeleton and replaced with new bone. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is a condition occurring in women after menopause, in which bones become weaker, more fragile and more likely to break a fall or physical effort.
Osteoporosis can also occur in men due to many reasons including age and / or low levels of the male hormone testosterone.
Most susceptible to broken bones are the spine, hip and wrist, although it can happen to any bone in the body. Osteoporosis-related fractures can also cause back pain, lower height and curvature of the spine. Many patients with osteoporosis have no symptoms and you may not know you have it.
