What is Xanax SR and what it is used
Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets belong to a group of medicines called benzodiazepines .
Xanax SR prolonged release tablet indicated for the treatment of anxiety . It can also be used for mixed anxiety - depressive states , and in the case of panic disorder .
2 . What you should know before taking Xanax SR
Do not take Xanax SR:
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to alprazolam or any of the other ingredients of Xanax SR;
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to benzodiazepines ;
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to aluminum should not take Xanax SR blue tablets of 0,5 mg or 2 mg, as the color E132 contains aluminum. Instead, you can take the tablets SR Xanax 1 mg, bp they do not contain aluminum ;
if you suffer from myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disease) ;
if you have severe liver or kidney failure.
Application of Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets in children and adolescents under the age of 18 years is not recommended.
Take special care with Xanax SR
Treatment should never be stopped abruptly but should be stopped gradually as directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor if you feel depressed or have thoughts of suicide.
You should consult with your doctor before you increase your dose or stop taking the drug.
Tell your doctor if you have a mental illness that requires treatment in a hospital if you are dependent on alcohol and / or other drugs.
Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Concomitant use of alcohol or other drugs may enhance the effects of benzodiazepines , especially drowsiness . You should not use Xanax SR in combination with medicines that suppress the central nervous system.
Tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines: other drugs for anxiety or depression medicines to treat psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia , medicines for fungal infections (eg ketoconazole ), certain antibiotics (eg, erythromycin ), birth control pills , cimetidine (for the treatment of heartburn ), diltiazem (for the treatment of angina and high blood pressure), ritonavir or similar drugs in the treatment of AIDS .
Taking Xanax SR with food and drink
Do not drink alcohol during treatment with Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets .
Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor before taking any medicine .
The use of benzodiazepines is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
Driving and using machines
Since benzodiazepines may impair your ability to react (in particular the speed of your reactions), caution is advised while driving or operating machinery.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Xanax SR
Xanax SR contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this product.
3 . How to take Xanax SR
Always take Xanax SR exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor.
Never take Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets in its sole discretion , but only at the discretion of your doctor.
The doctor who has prescribed Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets , will determine how many tablets you should take a day and what time you take them . Tablets must be swallowed whole without chewing , with some water .
At the beginning of treatment you may feel some drowsiness, but this feeling usually decreases during treatment . If this causes any inconvenience, ask your doctor.
Treatment should never be stopped abruptly , but should always be stopped gradually as directed by your doctor.
Xanax SR should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years.
Doctor may prescribe at the beginning of treatment the following: one blue , round tablet Xanax SR (0,5 mg) in the morning and at bedtime or 1 white round tablet ( 1 mg) just before bedtime . Your doctor may change the amount if necessary. The maximum dose is usually 4 mg daily for anxiety and 4,5 mg for anxiety combined with depression. In elderly patients and patients with poor general condition, the doctor usually prescribes early the following: 1 blue round tablet Xanax SR (0,5 mg) at bedtime . The doctor may also , if necessary, adjust the dose to adapt individually to a patient .
TREATMENT in panic disorder
In some panic disorders Xanax SR prolonged-release tablets are used in widely varying doses should be determined through consultation with your doctor , taking into account other approaches to the problem besides drugs. The dose may not exceed 4 mg.
If you take an overdose of Xanax SR
Consult your doctor if you took too much Xanax tablets SR.
Do not give the patient anything to drink if it is not fully conscious.
If you forget to take your Xanax SR
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose . Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking Xanax SR
Consult your doctor if you have to stop taking Xanax SR. Treatment should not be discontinued abruptly , but with a gradual reduction in dose. Abrupt discontinuation of Xanax SR could lead to a resumption of symptoms , or symptoms of withdrawal (see item 4 Possible side effects).

4 . Possible side effects
Like all medicines, SR Xanax can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Side effects , if any occur , are generally observed at the beginning of therapy and usually disappear with continued use or dose reduction .
Common side effects that may affect more than 1 person in 100 are:
decreased appetite, confusion , depression, dizziness / vertigo , impaired coordination , memory impairment , speech disturbances, impaired concentration , headache , blurred vision, constipation, nausea , fatigue, irritability.
Uncommon side effects which may affect more than 1 person in 1000 :
hyperprolactinemia , hallucinations , anger, aggression , hostility , anxiety , sexual dysfunction / changes in libido , insomnia, nervousness , amnesia , tremor , abnormal liver function , jaundice, dermatitis , muscle weakness , menstrual and ovulatory disorders , incontinence ( urinary incontinence ) , retention ( retention ) of urine , change in body weight, increased intraocular pressure.
Side effects are not known :
vegetative symptoms , hepatitis , severe allergic reaction that can cause swelling of the face and throat , peripheral edema .
With abrupt discontinuation of treatment, especially in patients treated with high doses , may occur withdrawal symptoms such as irritability , insomnia, cramps, feeling sick , sweating , convulsions and delirium . Gradual dosage reduction under the supervision of your doctor helps prevent these reactions.

5 . How to store Xanax SR
Do not store above 25 ° C.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Xanax SR after the expiry date stated on the carton.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.

What does Xanax SR
The active substance is alprazolam (alprazolam). Xanax SR prolonged release tablet contains 0,5 mg, 1 mg or 2 mg of active agent alprazolam .
The other ingredients are lactose , methylhydroxypropylcellulose , silica , colloidal anhydrous and magnesium stearate. Moreover, the blue tablet of 0,5 mg and 2 mg and contain colorant E132 .
