Cefuroxime axetil belongs to a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins. All cephalosporins (B-lactam antibiotics) inhibit cell wall and thereby causing bacterial cell lysis.
What used Xorimax?
For the treatment of infections caused by bacteria susceptible to cefuroxime:
Infections of the upper respiratory tract (infections of the nose, ears and throat, acute otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis);
Infections of the lower respiratory tract (pneumonia, acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis exacerbation phase);
Urinary tract infections (pyelonephritis, cystitis and urethritis);
Gonorrhoea, acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis
Infections of the skin and soft tissue (furunculosis, pyoderma and impetigo);
Treatment of the early manifestations of Lyme disease and subsequent prevention of late-onset disease in adults and children over 12 years.
When you need to apply Xorimax ?
Xorimax should not be taken if:
You are or think you may be hypersensitive (allergic) to cephalosporins and / or any of the excipients in tablets
you have had a previous hypersensitivity reaction to penicillin or other products of beta-lactam antibiotics.
What special precautions should I follow when using Xorimax ?
If after taking Xorimax are hypersensitivity reactions occur, its use should be discontinued immediately and an appropriate lechenie.Osobeno care is needed in patients with a prior allergic reaction to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
As with other antibiotics with a broad spectrum of activity, prolonged use of Xorimax ® can cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms (eg Candida, enterococci and Clostridium difficile), which may require discontinuation.
Severe or persistent diarrhea should raise suspicion provoked by antibiotic pseudomembranous colitis, which can be life threatening. In these cases, the adoption of Xorimax ® should be discontinued immediately and appoint a specific treatment established. Acceptance of antiperistaltichni drugs is contraindicated (see Adverse Reactions). In the treatment of Lyme disease for 20 days can be uchesti of diarrhea.
Patients with severe gastrointestinal disorders with vomiting and diarrhea should be treated with Xorimax , since it can not ensure adequate absorption. In these cases it is recommended parenteral treatment with cefuroxime. During prolonged treatment with Xorimax ® may develop overgrowth of pathogens resistant to cefuroxime axetil strains. In these cases it is essential that patients be carefully monitored for the development of a superinfection priproyavata them to be taken appropriate measures (see Adverse Reactions). Has reports of reaction Jarisch-Herxheimer after treatment of Lyme disease Xorimax *. The reaction is the direct bactericidal activity of cefuroxime axetil on the spirochaete Borrelia burgdorferi. Patients should be informed that this common and usually self-limited reaction is a consequence of the treatment of Lyme disease with antibiotics. Concomitant administration of drugs, increasing the pH of gastric juice (see Interactions).
There is no clinical experience with Xorimax in infants younger than 3 months. In the treatment of Lyme disease in an early phase clinical trial is only for adults and children over 12 godini.Spetsialno care is needed for patients with phenylketonuria, because the tablets contain aspartame in its composition:
Xorimax contains 125 mg 0,2 mg aspartame per tablet.
Xorimax contains 250 mg 0,3 mg aspartame per tablet.
Xorimax contains 500 mg 0,4 mg aspartame per tablet.
In patients taking Xorimax is recommended to determine blood glucose and plasma glucose made by or hexokinase method. Cefuroxime does not interfere in the determination of creatinine by the alkaline picric method (see Interactions). During treatment with cefuroxime sodium, some children have experienced mild to moderate hearing loss.
Adopt Xorimax with food and drink
To achieve optimal absorption Xorimax tablets should be taken immediately after meals.
Other products that influence the effect of Xorimax or can be affected by it?
Tell your doctor about medicines you are taking at the moment, even those bought from a pharmacy without a prescription. Concomitant use of Xorimax with drugs, increasing the pH of the stomach, ranitidine, cimetidine, omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole (for the treatment of peptic ulcer or heartburn), reduces bioavailability of Xorimax . It is recommended to avoid this combination (see Special warnings and precautions for use).
Since bacteriostatic drugs may interfere with the bactericidal action of cephalosporins, it is advisable to avoid giving tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol with cefuroxime axetil. Concurrent administration of probenecid may result in high maintenance for a long time concentrations of cefuroxime in the serum and bile (to inhibit the release of the antibiotic in the kidneys).
Xorimax information to the disc can affect some of the methods for the determination of blood glucose and of urinata.Priemaneto Xorimax can lead to false positive results when using the test of Coombs. This can affect the cross matching blood type compatibility. Cephalosporin antibiotics at high dosage should be given with caution to patients receiving potent diuretics, aminoglycosides and amphotericin as these combinations increase the risk of nephrotoxicity.
What you need to know about the use of the product during pregnancy and lactation?
Please consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any lekarstvo.Nyama insufficient data on the use of Xorimax during pregnancy in order to assess the possible harmful effects of it. Conducted experimental studies in animals have not shown evidence of harmfulness. Cefuroxime crosses the placenta. Xorimax should not be used during pregnancy unless after careful risk assessment by the physician. Cefuroxime is excreted in small amounts in breast milk. Lactating women should stop breast-feeding during treatment Xorimax .

To achieve optimal absorption, tablets Xorimax ® should be taken after meals. The duration of therapy is 7 days (5 to 10 days). In case of pharyngotonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes is recommended that treatment be continued for at least 10 days. In Lyme disease at an early stage, treatment duration should be 20 days.
The dosage depends on the severity of the infection. In severe infections is recommended in parenteral forms of cefuroxime. Xorimax is effective in the treatment of pneumonia and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis used following initial parenteral treatment with cefuroxime sodium.
Adults and children over 12 years:
In the majority of infections - 250 mg twice daily
For urinary tract infections - 125 mg twice daily
In low to moderately developed infections of the lower respiratory tract, such as bronchitis - 250 mg twice daily
In severe infections of the lower respiratory tract or suspected pneumonia - 500 mg twice daily
In pyelonephritis - 250 mg twice daily
For infections of skin and soft tissue infections: 250 to 500 mg twice daily
For Lyme disease - 500 mg twice daily for 20 days
In uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single dose of 1000 mg, if necessary, can be combined with 1000 mg probenecid.
Transition from parenteral to oral therapy:
For pneumonia: 1.5 g cefuroxime sodium in two or three doses (iv or im) for 48 -72 hours, followed by oral administration of 500 mg Xorimax (cefuroxime axetil) twice daily for 7 -10 days;
In exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 750 mg cefuroxime sodium in two or three doses (iv or im) for 48 -72 hours, followed by oral administration of 500 mg Xorimax (cefuroxime axetil) twice daily za5 -10 days.
Children aged 5 to 12 years:
For most infections - 125 mg twice daily.
Acute otitis media - 250 mg twice daily.
Children under 5 years:
Xorimax tablets are not suitable for treatment of children under 5 years. For patients in this age group is recommended to use an oral suspension. No experience with the drug in infants under 3 months of age.
Dosage in patients with renal impairment, dialysis patients and the elderly:
If the daily dose does not exceed 1 e, no special precautions in patients with renal impairment and in elderly patients. Xorimax dose tablets should be carefully evaluated in patients with renal impairment and creatinine clearance below 20 ml / min. In patients on dialysis, a further dose of cefuroxime at the end of each dialysis.
Tell your doctor if you think that the effect of Xorimax is too strong or too weak for you.
What should I do if Xorimax has been adopted in very large quantities (intentional or unintentional overdose)?
Please consult your doctor if you take a larger dose than Xorimax ®. Overdoses of cephalosporins can cause convulsions. Do not take on its own initiative, a higher dose than prescribed!
What should you do if you miss taking Xorimax ®?
If you miss a dose of medication, take it as soon as you find it. Do not take a double dose to replace propusnatata.Ne modify or discontinue the treatment on their own initiative, even if you feel better, to avoid complications or deterioration.
