What is vitamin B12 AND WHAT IT IS USED

Vitamin B12 injection contains the active substance cyanocobalamin , which belongs to the group of vitamins . It plays an important role in the formation of red blood cells. It is used to treat pernicious anemia , and other species that result from vitamin B12 deficiency . It is used for treatment of other conditions associated with vitamin B12 deficiency in the body that can occur in : malnutrition , chronic atrophic gastritis , after operations for partial or complete removal of gastric surgery or diseases of the intestine , gastro - intestinal tumors. Vitamin B12 deficiency can occur in vegans , as it does not contain sufficient quantities of food of plant origin.

2 . Before starting treatment with vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 should not be applied in the following cases:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance or excipients in the product;
If you suffer from disease Leber ( hereditary optic nerve atrophy ) ;
If you are pregnant and have megaloblastic anemia not due to vitamin B12 deficiency ;
If you suffer from thromboembolism ;
If you have a malignant cancer.
Take special care with Vitamin B12
At the beginning of treatment with vitamin B12 in rare cases can change the frequency or rhythm of the heart . When these symptoms occur, consult your doctor.
During treatment with vitamin B12 , your doctor may order blood tests to monitor the effect of treatment .
Possibly colored urine in red with the use of vitamin B12.

Using other medicines
Tell your doctor if you are taking birth control pills , or you are taking the antibiotic chloramphenicol .

Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine .
During pregnancy and lactation Vitamin B12 can be used in prescription and dosage determined by your doctor .

Driving and using machines
Vitamin B12 has no effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

3 . HOW TO USE VITAMIN B12
Vitamin B12 intramuscular injection by a doctor or other qualified medical personnel.
The dosage and frequency of administration should be determined by the physician according to the level of vitamin B12 deficiency and the severity of symptoms.

4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, vitamin B12 can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely observed allergic skin reactions - itching , rash, urticaria. In extremely rare cases, severe allergic reactions ( anaphylaxis ) after injection of vitamin B12. In some cases it may occur fever, chills , hot flushes , fatigue , pain at the injection site .

If any of the side effects gets serious , or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not store above 25 ° C.
Do not freeze !
Keep out of reach of children!
Do not use vitamin B12 after the expiry date stated on the pack .

What does Vitamin B12 injection
The active ingredient is cyanocobalamin 100, 250 , 500 or 1000 micrograms in 1 ml of solution for injection .
The other ingredients are sodium chloride , sodium acetate trihydrate , glacial acetic acid , water for injections.

Vitamin B12 injection is a clear liquid with red color.
10 colorless glass ampoules 1 ml in PVC film : 1 or 10 blister with leaflet. Opening ampoules by pressing the thumb on the mark ( point ) of the cervix over the ampoule.





The following information is intended for healthcare professionals
Dosage and method of administration of Vitamin B12:
The product is administered intramuscularly.

Adults and children
Pernicious and other macrocytic anemia without concomitant neurological symptoms :
Cyanocobalamin is administered in a dose of 250 to 1 000 ?g every other day for 1-2 weeks, followed by 250 ?g once a week until the normalization of blood counts .
Maintenance dose : 1 000 ?g once a month.
Pernicious and other macrocytic anemia with concomitant neurological symptoms :
Product is administered at a dose of 1000 ?g every other day to influence clinical and laboratory parameters .
Prevention of vitamin B12 deficiency anemia due to gastrectomy or malabsorption syndrome :
250 to 1000 ?g is administered once a month.
During the treatment with vitamin B12 , regular monitoring of blood cell counts for assessment of therapeutic efficacy.
