What Vertisan and what it is used?


Betahistinat, which is the active substance of Vertisan ®, is similar to histamine - a substance that is normally found in the human body.
Betahistinat works by reducing signal at the center of balance of
brain, causing dizziness.
Betahistinat is indicated for the treatment of Meniere's syndrome, the symptoms of which may include vertigo (often associated with nausea and / or vomiting), tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hearing loss.


 Before you take Vertisan:


Do not take Vertisan:


 if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to betahistine dihydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of Vertisan ® (see section 6 "Further information");
 If you have a tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma);
 during pregnancy and lactation.
 

Take special care with Vertisan:


 If you suffer from ulcers in the stomach or duodenum;
 If you suffer from chronic respiratory disease (asthma), if you suffer from hives, skin rashes or allergic rhinitis - your symptoms may worsen while taking Vertisan ®;
 if you have very low blood pressure;
 at the same time taking other medicines used to treat colds or allergies - called antihistamines - (see also section "Taking other medicines").
 

Taking other medicines:

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
If you take Vertisan ® together with certain medicines used to treat colds or allergies (antihistamines), you reduce the effects of both drugs.
If you are currently taking an antihistamine should gradually reduce the dose of this medicine for about 6 days before you start taking Vertisan ®.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Do not take Vertisan, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, because there are insufficient data from studies in animals and humans on use during pregnancy and lactation.

Driving and using machines:

No experience of impairing the ability to drive and use machines.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Vertisan:

This medicine contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before you start taking Vertisan.

How to take Vertisan?


Always Vertisan exactly as your doctor has had.
If you're not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Unless otherwise specified, the usual dose is:
1/2 to 1 tablet Vertisan 16 mg. Three times daily (equivalent to 24 to 48 mg. Betahistine dihydrochloride).
The tablet can be divided into two equal halves.
Swallow the tablets unchewed with some liquid during meals or after meals.

Your doctor will tell you how long you should take Vertisan ®. Usually the treatment is long and lasts for several months.

Children

Vertisan should not be taken by children and adolescents below 18 years due to insufficient data and experience.

If you take more than the dose Vertisan:

If you take more than the required number of tablets Vertisan ®, may experience the following symptoms of overdose due to: headache, flushing, low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing due to narrowing of bronchi (bronchial asthma) and swelling of the mucous upper respiratory tract due to water retention (edema Quincke).

Urgently seek medical advice if you experience any of these symptoms.

The doctor will start implementing appropriate countermeasures.

If you forget to take Vertisan:

If you forget to take a tablet Vertisan ®, just skip that dose.
Take the next tablet the next dose at the usual time.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

If you stop taking Vertisan:

Do not stop taking Vertisan, before your doctor tells you to stop.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.


 Possible side effects:


Like all medicines, Vertisan can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Adverse reactions are listed below by system organ class and frequency.

Frequencies are defined as follows:
very common: affects more than 1 in 10 treated
common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100
uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000
rare: affects 1 to 10 of 10,000 treated
very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 treated

Cardiac disorders:
Rare: feeling of palpitations, chest tightness

Nervous system disorders:
Rare: feeling of pressure in the head
Unknown: headaches and sometimes sleepiness

Respiratory, thoracic and mednasginalni disorders
Rare: may worsen existing asthma.

Gastrointestinal disorders:
Rare: nausea, heartburn, discomfort and abdominal pain, flatulence

General disorders and administration site conditions:
Rare: feeling of warmth

Immune system disorders:
Very rare: transient skin rash and itching

 
Special warned:

Please ask your doctor about appropriate measures if you notice any of the above side effects.
Gastrointestinal disorders can be avoided if Vertisan ® is taken during or after meals or reduce the dosage.

If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.


How to store Vertisan?


Keep out of reach of children.
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not use the tablets after the expiry date stated on the carton and on the blister.

What Vertisan?

The active substance is betahistine dihydrochloride.
Each tablet contains 16 mg of betahistine dihydrochloride.
The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous citric acid, povidone K 25, crospovidone type A and oil.
