VERTIMED WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED
Betahistine, the active substance in VERTIMED, like histamine - a substance normally present in the human body. Betahistine works by reducing the signals sent to the center in the brain that cause dizziness.
VERTIMED used for the treatment of Meniere's syndrome (Meniere's syndrome), whose symptoms typically include vertigo (often associated with nausea and / or vomiting), ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss.

2 BEFORE YOU TAKE VERTIMED
Do not take Vertimed:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to betahistine hydrochloride or to any of the excipients of Vertimed listed in section 6;
If you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
Take special care with Vertimed:
If you suffer from ulcers in the stomach or intestines;
If you suffer from a chronic disease of the respiratory tract (bronchial asthma);
If you suffer from hives, skin rashes or allergic rhinitis - these symptoms may worsen if you take betahistine;
If you suffer from low blood pressure;
If you take other medicines to treat allergies or colds - t. Called. Antihistamines (see. Section on Taking other medicines).
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
If taking VERTIMED simultaneously with other drugs for the treatment of allergies and colds (antihistamines) and the effect of the two drugs can be reduced. If you are currently taking an antihistamine dose of this medicine should be reduced gradually over six days before taking VERTIMED.

Taking Vertimed with food and drink
This medicine can sometimes cause stomach upsets, see. Section 4 "Possible side effects". The likelihood of this happening may be reduced if you take VERTIMED during or shortly after a meal.

Pregnancy and lactation
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding should not take VERTIMED if your doctor considers it absolutely necessary. There are no adequate data from the use during pregnancy and lactation studies conducted in animals and humans. You should discuss this with your doctor if you are pregnant, it is possible you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines
Not known whether this product affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Vertimed
This product contains lactose. If your doctor said that you have an intolerance to some sugars, before taking this medicine consult your doctor.

3 HOW TO TAKE VERTIMED
Always take VERTIMED exactly as your doctor tells you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The usual dose is 24 mg - 48 mg betahistine day divided in 2 or 3 equally divided doses.
VERTIMED 8 mg: one or two tablets three times a day.
VERTIMED 16 mg: 1/2 or one tablet three times a day or half a tablet twice a day.
VERTIMED 24mg: 1/2 one tablet twice daily.

The tablets should be swallowed whole with sufficient fluid during or after a meal.
Your doctor will tell you how long you should take this medicine. The usual duration of treatment is a few months.

Children: VERTIMED should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
No information or experience of such application.

If you take more than you should Vertimed
If you take more tablets than necessary may experience the following symptoms associated with overdose: headache, flushing, low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath caused by contraction of the lungs (bronchial asthma) and swelling of the upper surface respiratory tract due to fluid retention (edema Quincke).
If you experience any of these symptoms, immediately consult a doctor. The doctor will give you the necessary treatment. Always take the medicine pack with you to the doctor to understand what you have taken.

If you forget to take Vertimed
If you miss a dose, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you stop taking Vertimed
Do not stop taking VERTIMED unless your doctor tells you to.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines VERTIMED can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following adverse reactions are classified as rare (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000):
Palpitations, chest tightness;
Feeling of pressure in the head;
Worsening of bronchial asthma;
Nausea, heartburn, stomach upset and pain, flatulence;
Feeling of warmth.
The following side effects are very rare (affects less than 1 patient in 10,000):
Temporary skin rash and itching.
The following side effects are unknown frequency (frequency can not be estimated from the available data):
Headache, sometimes drowsiness.
Please tell your doctor if you experience any of these side effects.
Gastric side effects can be avoided if you take the drug during or after meals, or by reducing the dosage.

If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5 STORAGE VERTIMED
Keep out of reach of children.
VERTIMED not use after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and on each blister. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6 FURTHER INFORMATION
Contents Vertimed
The active ingredient is betahistinov dihydrochloride (betahistine dihydrochloride).
Vertimed 8 mg: Each tablet contains 8 mg betahistinov dihydrochloride (betahistine dihydrochloride).
Vertimed 16 mg: Each tablet contains 16 mg betahistinov dihydrochloride (betahistine dihydrochloride).
Vertimed 24 mg: Each tablet contains 24 mg betahistinov dihydrochloride (betahistine dihydrochloride).

The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), citric acid anhydrous (E330), povidone K25 (E1201), crospovidone type A (E1202) and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Vertimed looks like and contents of the pack
Vertimed 8 mg: white, round, flat, beveled tablets, scored on one side with a diameter of 6.6 mm
The scoreline is only intended to split the tablet in order to ease of swallowing and not to separate into two equal halves.

Vertimed 16 mg: white, round, flat, beveled tablets, scored on one side with a diameter of 9.0 mm.
The tablet can be divided into two equal halves.

Vertimed 24 mg: white, round, flat, beveled tablets, scored on one side with a diameter of 10.0 mm.
The tablet can be divided into two equal halves.

Blister packaging PVC / PE / PVDC - aluminum.
Packs 20, 24, 30, 48, 50, 60, 90, 96 and 100 tablets.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
