What Sumamed forte syrup and what it is used
Sumamed forte syrup contains azithromycin, which belongs to a class of antibacterial agents for systemic use, a macrolide antibiotic.
Sumamed forte syrup was used to treat infections caused by susceptible organisms in the following cases:
Infections of the upper respiratory tract : pharyngitis / tonsillitis , sinusitis and otitis media ;
Infections of the lower respiratory tract : bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia ;
Infections of skin and soft tissue erythema chronicum migrans (I Lyme disease) , erysipelas , impetigo and secondary pyoderma .
2 . What you should know before taking Sumamed forte syrup
Do not take Sumamed forte syrup :
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to azithromycin , erythromycin , macrolide and ketolide antibiotics or any of the other ingredients of Sumamed forte syrup;
concomitantly with ergot derivatives because of the theoretical possibility of ergotism ( bruising of the limbs limp ) .
Warnings and Precautions
Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you have:
liver problems : Your doctor may want to monitor the function of your liver or stop treatment ;
hepatic impairment ;
diarrhea in the use of antibiotics ;
impairment of renal function;
Azithromycin used with caution in infants due to lack of clinical data.
Other medicines and Sumamed forte syrup
Sumamed forte syrup should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking an antacid product.
Due to the theoretical possibility of ergotism ( bruising of the extremities, claudication ) , the concomitant administration of ergotamine with Sumamed .
It is possible that increasing the concentration of cyclosporine in combination with his Sumamed , therefore it is necessary to carefully assess the therapeutic benefit of the combined application.
The concomitant use of warfarin and Sumamed or oral coumarin anticoagulants may be a higher tendency to bleed .
It is possible to increase the concentration of digoxin in combination with azithromycin, therefore it is recommended to control the values in the plasma .
Coadministration of nelfinavir Sumamed and increases the concentration of azithromycin.

Sumamed forte syrup with food, drinks and alcohol
Sumamed forte syrup should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

3 . How to take Sumamed forte syrup
Always take Sumamed forte syrup exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract infections , skin and soft tissues : total dose of 30 mg / kg ( with the exception of the erythema migrans ): 10 mg / kg once daily for 3 days.
The dosage for children is determined by weight:

Patients with kidney or liver problems :

Azithromycin is metabolized in the liver and excreted via the bile and should not be used in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency.
Method of administration

4 . Possible side effects

Diarrhea , abdominal pain, nausea, flatulence ( gas occurrence ) .
Common ( occurring in at least 1 in 100 and less than 1 in 10 patients treated) :
Deafness , vomiting, indigestion , rash , itching, anorexia , dizziness, headache , numbness of hands and feet, change in taste , blurred vision , joint pain, fatigue , decreased lymphocyte count , eosinophil count decreased , decreased bicarbonate levels.
Uncommon ( occurring in at least 1 in 1000 and less than 1 in 100 patients treated) :
Fungal infections , vaginal infections , leukopenia , neutropenia , severe allergic reaction that causes swelling of the face or throat , hypersensitivity , nervousness, decreased sensitivity to touch, drowsiness , insomnia, impaired hearing , ringing in the ears, shaking, gastritis , constipation, hepatitis , Stevens -Johnson syndrome ( a severe illness accompanied by blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals ) , photosensitivity reaction , urticaria, pain in the chest , swelling , discomfort, frustration , increased levels of aspartate aminotransferase , alanine aminotransferase, bilirubin , BUN, creatinine levels , abnormal levels of potassium in the blood.
Rare ( occurring in at least 1 of the 10, 000 and less than 1 in 1000 patients treated) :
Excitement , a feeling of dizziness or vertigo, impairment of liver function.

5 . How to store Sumamed forte syrup
Powder for oral suspension and prepared oral suspension is kept below 25 ° C !
Keep out of reach of children !
Do not use Sumamed forte syrup after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
The prepared oral suspension should be used within 10 days.
