What Siofor 1000 mg and what is it used?
Siofor 1000 mg is a medicament for the treatment of non-insulin - dependent diabetes mellitus in adults ( type 2 diabetes ) .
Siofor 1000 mg medicine to lower high blood sugar in adults with diabetes ( type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults) ; particularly beneficial effect was observed in patients with obesity in which dieting alone or with a physical activity may not achieve adequate control of blood sugar. Siofor 1000 mg may be used alone (monotherapy ) or in combination with other drugs , blood glucose lowering , or with insulin .
After failure of diet in patients with obesity and diabetes ( type 2 diabetes ) during treatment with metformin as first- choice have been shown to decrease complications associated with diabetes .
2 . Siofor Before you take 1000 mg
Do not take Siofor 1000 mg:
You should not use Siofor 1000 mg in the following cases :
• Hypersensitivity to metformin hydrochloride or to any of the excipients of Siofor 1000 mg;
• increased acidity of the blood in diabetes (diabetic ketoacidosis ) , a condition preceding the coma ( coma ) ;
• renal failure or renal dysfunction (renal failure with elevated levels of creatinine in the blood) ;
• acute conditions that lead to impaired renal function , as
- Fluid loss during prolonged vomiting or severe diarrhea ( dehydration) ; - Severe infections ;
- Circulatory failure ( shock) ;
• before, during and 48 hours after studies with intravascular administration of iodinated contrast media ;
• acute or chronic disease that may lead to a shortage of oxygen in the tissue ( tissue hypoxia ) , such as :
- Heart failure or pulmonary function ( respiratory failure) ;
- A recent myocardial infarction;
- Circulatory failure ( shock) ;
• hepatic dysfunction , acute alcohol intoxication , alcoholism ;
Take special care with Siofor 1000 mg in :
The risk of excessive accumulation of the drug and increased acidity of the blood lactate ( lactic acidosis) is mainly determined by renal function. Therefore preliminary determination of normal renal function is indispensable for the initiation of treatment with Siofor 1000 mg.
Therefore, the evaluation of kidney function by determining the levels of serum creatinine should be repeated at intervals of at least once a year, even more often. If serum creatinine is the upper limit of normal, the assessment should be done at least two to four times a year. It should be noted that not necessarily the levels of serum creatinine are significant, particularly in the elderly . Then evaluation of renal function prior to the start of treatment is required to measure other indicator - the clearance of creatinine .
Particular care is required in conditions which can be expected to change in renal function (e.g., at the beginning of the administration of certain drugs to treat high blood pressure or of rheumatic diseases ) .
In studies with intravascular administration of iodinated contrast media are at risk of acute renal failure. Therefore, you should discontinue Siofor 1000 mg before this study. Treatment may be resumed two days after the survey , and only once the normal renal function.
If you are scheduled for surgery with general anesthesia , the use of Siofor 1000 mg should be stopped two days before the operation. Treatment may be resumed two days after surgery and only after ascertaining normal renal function.
Tell your doctor if you are suffering from a bacterial or viral infection ( eg influenza , respiratory tract infection , urinary tract infections ) .
During treatment with 1000 mg Siofor keep dieting and pay particular attention to the distribution of carbohydrate intake during the day . If you are overweight , you should continue to follow the diet to reduce weight under medical supervision.
Ingestion of large amounts of alcohol , the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Therefore, during treatment with 1000 mg Siofor should avoid alcohol .
In the event of undue accumulation , metformin can cause or facilitate the occurrence of lactic acidosis - a complication which, if left untreated, can lead to life-threatening condition (eg coma) . Cause of lactic acidosis can not only be an overdose , but the failure of contraindications . Therefore contraindications must be strictly adhered to (see "Do not take Siofor 1000 mg?").
Symptoms of lactic acidosis may starting to look like the side effects of metformin on the gastrointestinal tract : nausea , vomiting , diarrhea, abdominal pain. Within a few hours can manifest the full clinical picture with muscle pain and cramps, deep breathing noisy and blurred consciousness to coma. This requires immediate treatment in a hospital setting .
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently taking other medicines or have recently applied other medicines , even if without a prescription.
During prolonged treatment with Siofor 1000 mg, both at the inception of a new treatment and discontinuation of drugs, blood sugar levels can be affected .
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are currently or have recently taken the following medications : corticosteroids, certain drugs to treat high blood pressure ( ACE inhibitors) , drugs that increase urine output ( diuretics) , certain drugs for the treatment of asthma ( beta- sympathomimetics) , iodinated contrast media and medications containing alcohol.
Due to lack of sufficient expertise Siofor 1000 mg should be used for the treatment of children .
Since the elderly often observed renal impairment , the dose of 1000 mg Siofor should be determined according to renal function. Therefore , your kidney function should be monitored regularly by a doctor .
Taking Siofor 1000 mg with food and drink
During the administration of 1000 mg Siofor should avoid foods and drinks containing alcohol.
Pregnancy and lactation
Patients with diabetes who are pregnant or planning pregnancy should not take Siofor 1000 mg. In this case, to achieve a normal blood sugar levels need to take insulin . Therefore timely notify your doctor so he can change your treatment of insulin.
You should not use this medication during breastfeeding .
Driving and using machines
Treatment with 1000 mg Siofor itself does not lead to excessive blood sugar ( hypoglycemia) and therefore has no effect on ability to drive and use machines. Combination therapy with insulin or other medicines that lower blood sugar can lead to excessive blood sugar ( hypoglycemia) and impair your ability to drive and use machines or work without safe support.

The dose of 1000 mg Siofor determined by the physician and is individual for each patient , depending on the blood glucose levels and visited regularly by a physician.
How can you divide a tablet Siofor 1000 mg
Due to the new shape of the tablet , 1000 mg Siofor allows easy and accurate separation of the film-coated tablet . Film-coated tablets can be divided in two ways: with both hands , like other tablets or if you put the tablet with a deep bevel on the underside of a hard, flat surface and press with your thumb on top. If film-coated tablet is divided in order to more easily swallowed , take the two halves immediately one after another.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor , the usual dose is:
in general, this dosage form is suitable in a need for high doses of metformin. The usual dose is two tablets Siofor 1000 mg per day (equivalent to 2000 mg of metformin hydrochloride).
The maximum daily dose of three tablets Siofor 1000 mg per day (equivalent to 3000 mg metformin hydrochloride).
The tablet was swallowed without chewing , during or after a meal , with a sufficient amount of liquid.
With the use of two or more tablets taken them to be distributed throughout the day , eg . one tablet each after breakfast and dinner.
Please consult your doctor if you feel that the effect of Siofor 1000 mg is too strong or weak.
If you take more than the dose 1000 mg Siofor
Please tell your doctor if you take a large dose of 1000 mg Siofor than usual . Overdose with Siofor 1000 mg did not result in an excessive decrease in blood sugar ( hypoglycemia) , but may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (see " Special warnings " ) .
If you forget to take 1000 mg Siofor
If you forget to take Siofor 1000 mg, take your normal dose on the next intake and try to follow the prescription for the future. In any case after ingestion miss compensate by taking more tablets .
If you stop taking 1000 mg Siofor
If self discontinue Siofor 1000 mg without telling your doctor , you can expect an uncontrolled increase in blood glucose levels . This will in time lead to the onset of late diabetic complications - eye damage , kidney and vessels.
4 . Possible side effects
As with all medications , Siofor 1000 mg may lead to adverse reactions.
Nausea , vomiting and diarrhea , abdominal pain, loss of appetite. This usually occurs at the beginning of treatment and resolved spontaneously in most cases. In order to avoid these symptoms , it is recommended Siofor 1000 mg to be taken during or after meals two or three times daily. The gradual increase in dosage may also reduce these complaints.
If complaints continue for a long time , consult your doctor.
Metabolism and nutrition disorders
Severe metabolic disturbances due to occurrence of lactic acidosis. Signs of this can be vomiting and abdominal pain, which may be accompanied by muscle aches and cramps , or severe malaise (see " Special warnings " ) .
Suspicion of lactic acidosis, please consult your doctor and discontinue Siofor 1000 mg.
Disorders of the skin and subcutaneous
Redness of skin (mild erythema ) in patients with drug intolerance .

5 . How to store Siofor 1000 mg?
Keep out of reach of children!
Do not use Siofor 1000 mg after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment

What does Siofor 1000 mg?
The active substance is metformin hydrochloride (metformin hydrochloride). One tablet contains 1000 mg metformin hydrochloride.
Other ingredients are: hypromellose, povidone, magnesium stearate , macrogol 6000 , titanium dioxide (E 171).
