WHAT IS SINGULAR AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR ?
SINGULAIR is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks substances called leukotrienes . Leukotrienes cause narrowing and swelling of airways in the lung. Blocking leukotrienes improves asthma symptoms and helps control asthma.
Your doctor has prescribed SINGULAIR to treat your child's asthma , preventing daytime and nocturnal asthma symptoms .
SINGULAIR is used to treat patients from 6 months to 5 years who are inadequately controlled on their medication and need additional treatment.
SINGULAIR can also be used as an alternative treatment of inhaled corticosteroids in patients aged 2 to 5 years of age who are currently taking oral corticosteroids , and have shown that they can not use inhaled corticosteroids.
SINGULAIR also helps prevent the narrowing of airways triggered by exercise in patients 2 years and older.
Your doctor will decide how to take SINGULAR depending on the symptoms and severity of your child's asthma .
What is asthma ?

Asthma is a long-term illness .

Asthma include:
Difficulty breathing due to narrowing of the airways . This narrowing of airways worsens or improves in response to various conditions .
Swelling ( inflammation ) in the lining of the airways.
Sensitive airways that react to many things, such as cigarette smoke, pollen, cold air, or exercise .
Symptoms of asthma include :

Coughing, wheezing and chest tightness .
2 . BEFORE SINGULAR IS TAKEN
Tell your doctor about any medical problems and allergies your child has or has had.
SINGULAR Do not give your child if:
is allergic (hypersensitive ) to montelukast or any other ingredients singular (see 6 . further information).
Take special care with SINGULAIR :
If your asthma or breathing your child gets worse, tell your doctor immediately.
Oral SINGULAR is not meant to treat acute asthma attacks . If an attack occurs , follow the instructions given by your doctor for your child . Always wear inhaled rescue medicine for asthma for your child with you.
It is very important that your child take all prescribed by your doctor asthma . SINGULAR should not be used instead of other asthma medications your doctor has prescribed for your child .
On anti-asthma drugs should know that if you develop a combination of symptoms such as numbness or numbness of arms or legs, worsening of pulmonary symptoms and / or rash, you should consult your doctor.
Your child should not take acetyl- salicylic acid ( aspirin) or anti-inflammatory drugs (known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs ) if they worsen his asthma .
Taking other medicines:
Some medicines may affect the way the singular or SINGULAR can affect the way other medicines .
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without
recipe .
Tell your doctor if your child is taking the following medicines before starting the singular :
phenobarbital (used for the treatment of epilepsy )
phenytoin (used for the treatment of epilepsy )
rifampicin (used for the treatment of tuberculosis and other infections)
Use the singular with food and drink
SINGULAIR 4mg granules can be taken regardless of meals.
Pregnancy and lactation
This section is not applicable to SINGULAIR 4 mg granules since they are intended for use in children 6 months to 5 years of age, however , the information that follows relates to the active ingredient montelukast .

Use in pregnancy
Women who are pregnant or intend to become pregnant should consult their doctor before taking SINGULAR . Your doctor will decide whether you can take SINGULAR during this period.
Use in lactation
It is not known whether SINGULAIR passes into breast milk. You should consult with your doctor before taking SINGULAR if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed .
Driving and using machines
This section is not applicable to SINGULAIR 4 mg granules since they are intended for use in children 6 months to 5 years of age, however , the information that follows relates to the active ingredient montelukast .

SINGULAR is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, individual responses to medication may vary . Some side effects ( such as dizziness and drowsiness) that have been reported very rarely with SINGULAR may affect some patients' ability to drive or operate machinery .
3 . HOW TO TAKE SINGULAIR
This medicine can be given to children under adult supervision. Your child should take SINGULAR every night.
 Should be taken even if the child has no symptoms , or has an acute asthma attack.
Always SINGULAR your child as your doctor has told you . Ask your child's doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
To be taken by mouth
For children aged 6 months to 5 years
One sachet SINGULAIR 4 mg taken orally every night.
If your child is taking SINGULAIR , make sure that it does not take any other products containing the same active ingredient, montelukast .
For children 6 months to 2 years old, SINGULAIR 4 mg granules.
For children 2 to 5 years are suitable SINGULAR 4 mg chewable tablets and SINGULAR 4 mg granules.
SINGULAR 4 mg granules is not recommended for children under 6 months of age.
How to give oral granules SINGULAR your child ?
Do not open the sachet until ready to use .
SINGULAR oral granules can be given :
Or directly into the mouth ;
Or mixed with a spoonful of mushy food ( eg , applesauce , ice cream, carrots and rice ) that is cold or at room temperature.
Mix all of the amount of oral granules SINGULAIR with a spoon mushy food that is cold or at room temperature. Make sure the entire dose is mixed with food.
Make sure the child gets the full quantity of the mixture oral granule / food immediately (within 15 minutes). IMPORTANT: Never leave for later use mixture oral granule / food .
SINGULAIR granules are not intended to be dissolved in a liquid. However, your child can take liquids after swallowing the beads SINGULAIR .
SINGULAIR granules can be taken regardless of meals.
If your child takes more dose SINGULAIR .
Contact your doctor immediately .
No side effects were reported in the majority of reported cases of overdose. The most frequently occurring symptoms reported with overdose in adults and children included abdominal pain , somnolence , thirst, headache , vomiting and hyperactivity.
If you forget to give your child SINGULAIR
Try to give your child SINGULAR as prescribed by your doctor. However, if your child misses a dose, just resume the usual schedule of one sachet once a day. Do not give a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If your child stops taking the singular
SINGULAR can treat your child's asthma only if it continues to accept it. It is very important to continue taking SINGULAR as long as your doctor prescribes. This will help control your child's asthma .

4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, SINGULAIR can cause side effects, although not everybody gets it .
In clinical studies with SINGULAIR 4 mg granules, the most commonly reported adverse reactions ( occurring in at least 1 in 100 patients and less than 1 in 10 treated pediatric patients ) associated with SINGULAR are:
diarrhea
hyperactivity
asthma
scaly and itchy skin
rash
Further reported the following adverse reactions in clinical trials with SINGULAR 10 mg film-coated tablets , 4 and 5 mg chewable tablets :
abdominal pain
headache
thirst
These were usually mild and occurred in patients treated with SINGULAR and placebo ( tablet containing no drug) . Additionally, when the drug has been reported in the market are :
increased bleeding tendency
allergic reactions including rash, swelling of the face , lips, tongue and / or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing
changes in behavior and mood [ sleep disturbances , including nightmares , hallucinations, irritability, anxiety , restlessness , agitation including aggressive behavior , tremor , depression, sleep disorders, sleepwalking , thoughts and suicidal behavior ( in very rare cases) ]
dizziness , drowsiness , tingling / numbness , seizures
 palpitations
 nosebleeds
 diarrhea , dry mouth, digestive problems , nausea , vomiting
 hepatitis
bruising, itching , rash, tender red lumps under the skin most commonly on the shins (erythema nodosum )
 pain in joints and muscles , muscle cramps
fatigue , weakness , swelling , fever
In asthmatic patients treated with montelukast, very rare cases, a combination of symptoms such as numbness or numbness of arms and legs , worsening pulmonary symptoms and / or rash ( syndrome Churg-Strauss).
You should tell your doctor immediately if your child develops any of these symptoms . Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information about side effects. If any of the side effects gets serious , or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet , please tell your child's doctor or pharmacist.

5 . HOW TO STORE SINGULAIR
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the month and year shown by the six digits after " EXP " on the packaging. The first two digits indicate the month , the last digits indicate the year.
Store in the original package to protect from light and moisture.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.
6 . ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What does SINGULAIR
The active ingredient is montelukast . Each sachet of granules contains montelukast sodium, which corresponds to 4 mg of montelukast.
The other ingredients are mannitol , hypromellose (E 463 ), and magnesium stearate.
