NIMOTOP WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR?

Nimotop S is a medicine that counteracts the effects of vasospasm after cerebral hemorrhage.
S Nimotop is used for:
Prevention and treatment of ischemic neurological deficits caused by cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage aneurysm.
 

BEFORE YOU USE NIMOTOP S

 
Do not use Nimotop S
 
 If you are allergic to nimodipine or any of the other ingredients Nimotop S
 If you take both rifampicin and phenobarbitone, phenytoin or carbamazepine because these drugs can significantly reduce the efficacy of the product
 
Take special care with Nimotop S
  If you have high water content in the brain
If you have significantly increased brain pressure
 If you have hypotension
Children and adolescents
 
There are no adequate data from the use of The level in children and adolescents, treatment of this age group, this drug is not currently recommended
 
Taking other medicines:
 
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription
 
Use of S Vimotop with food and drink
 
Grapefruit juice may increase the effects and side effects of Nimotop S. This effect lasts for at least four days after the last consumption of grapefruit juice. The consumption of grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice should be avoided when conducting treatment with nimodipine.
 

Pregnancy and lactation

 
No studies on harmful effects of Nimotop S during pregnancy. So Nimotop S should be used during pregnancy after careful consideration of the benefits and potential risks of the severity of the clinical picture.
Since nimodipine can pass into breast milk, you have to stop breastfeeding when taking this medicine
 

Driving and operating machinery

 
Basically Nimotop S may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery due to the onset of vertigo
 

HOW TO USE NIMOTOP S

 
The usual dose is administered S Nimotop infusion for 5-12 days followed by a daily dose of 6 x 60 mg nimodipine, equivalent to 2 tablets 6 times a day every 4 hours.
 
S Nimotop tablets are oral.
In patients with severely impaired renal or hepatic function, especially cirrhosis of the liver, effects and side effects, eg. low blood pressure hypotension may be more pronounced, in these cases, your doctor may reduce the dose if necessary to consider the possible discontinuation.
Usually tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of fluid, regardless of diet. You must provide intervals of 4 hours between doses. We recommend that you do not take tablets lying down.
 

How long should you take Nimotop S?

 
Usually recommended S Nimotop tablets to take for about 7 days after 5-14 days infusion therapy Nimotop S infusion.
Your doctor should determine the duration of therapy in each case.
 

SIDE EFFECTS

 
Uncommon - decreased number of platelets, allergic reactions, skin rash, headache, rapid pulse, low blood pressure, vascular dilatation, nausea
 
Rare - slow heartbeat, intestinal obstruction, transient elevated liver enzymes
