What Mometasone Teva is and what it is used
What Mometasone Teva ?
Mometasone Teva contains mometasone furoate , a group of medicines called steroids . Mometasone furoate is not to be associated with " anabolic " steroids with certain athletes who abuse and are treated such as tablets or injections. When small amounts of mometasone furoate be scattered in the nose, it can help relieve the inflammation , sneezing, itching and stuffy or runny nose .

For what use Mometasone Teva ?
Mometasone Teva is used in adults and children aged 6 years and older , to treat the symptoms of hay fever ( also called seasonal allergic rhinitis) and perennial rhinitis.
For adults aged 18 years and older , Mometasone Teva is used to treat nasal polyps .

What is hay fever and perennial rhinitis ?
Hay fever , which occurs at certain times of the year is an allergic reaction caused by inhalation of pollen from trees, grasses , weeds , and fungi and fungal spores. Perennial rhinitis occurs throughout the year and the symptoms can be caused by sensitivity to a variety of things , including dust mites , animal hair (or dandruff) , feathers and certain foods. These allergies cause sneezing and runny nose , causing swelling of the nasal mucosa , leading to a feeling of nasal obstruction . Teva Mometasone reduces the swelling and irritation in the nose and to relieve runny nose, itching and nasal congestion or runny nose .
What are nasal polyps ?
Nasal polyps are small growths on the nasal mucosa , and usually affect both nostrils. The main symptom is a feeling of nasal obstruction , which can affect breathing through the nose. May also appear watery nasal discharge , feeling that something running in the back of the throat and loss of taste and smell . Mometasone Teva reduces inflammation in the nose, in which the polyp is gradually narrowed . You should talk to your doctor if you feel better or your condition worsens after a few days.

2 . What you should know before taking Mometasone Teva
Do not take Mometasone Teva :
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to mometasone furoate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in Section 6) ;
if you have an infection in the nose. You should wait until the infection passes before you start using the nasal spray ;
if you have recently had surgery on your nose or you hurt your nose. You should wait until healed before using the nasal spray .
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Mometasone Teva .

Be especially careful with Mometasone Teva :
if you have or have had tuberculosis ;
if you have an infection with herpes simplex ( virus) eye ;
if you have an infection ;
if you are taking other corticosteroid medicines by mouth or by injection ;
if you have cystic fibrosis.
While taking Mometasone Teva avoid contact with someone who has measles or chickenpox . You should tell your doctor if you have been in contact with someone who suffers from these infections.

Children and adolescents
Sometimes nasal corticosteroids may affect the growth of children and adolescents. The doctor will monitor the growth of children receiving prolonged treatment with nasal corticosteroids may decrease the dose if growth slowed.
Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years , since safety and mechanism of action has not been established.

Other medicines and Mometasone Teva
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking , have recently taken or might take other medicines.
If you are taking other corticosteroid medicines for allergy, or orally or by injection , your doctor may advise you to stop taking them once you start using Mometasone Teva . Some people may find that once you stop oral or injectable corticosteroids experience side effects such as joint or muscle pain, weakness and depression. If this happens , you should tell your doctor who will advise you to continue to use the nasal spray . You can also develop other allergies, such as itchy , watery eyes or red and itchy patches on the skin. If you develop any of these side effects and are worried , you should visit your doctor.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
You should not use Mometasone Teva if you are pregnant unless your doctor has told you to use it.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medicine . You should not breastfeed while using this medication unless your doctor has told you.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Mometasone Teva
Mometasone Teva contains benzalkonium chloride solution (240 micrograms per actuation ) , which is an irritant and can cause skin reactions. If used for prolonged periods , the preservative benzalkonium chloride can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa . In the event of such a reaction ( constant stuffy nose ) , if possible, should be used medicines for nasal use without benzalkonium chloride. If there are no such products should be used another formulation .

3 . How to use Mometasone Teva
Always take Mometasone Teva exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take a larger dose of the spray more often or longer than your doctor tells you .
Hay fever and perennial rhinitis
Adults and children aged 12 years and older :
The recommended dose is two sprays in each nostril once daily for adults ( including the elderly ) and children aged 12 years and over.
Once symptoms are controlled , your doctor may advise you to spray only once in each nostril once a day ;
If you do not feel better , you should visit your doctor, who will tell you to increase your dose to a maximum daily dose of four sprays in each nostril once a day. Once symptoms are controlled , your doctor may advise you to reduce the dose to two sprays at a time in each nostril once a day.

Children aged 6 to 11 years
The recommended dose is one spray in each nostril once daily.
Prolonged use of intranasal steroids in high doses may cause growth inhibition in children . Your doctor can check the size of the child at regular intervals during treatment and reduce dose if any observed effects.

If you suffer from severe hay fever , your doctor may tell you to start using Mometasone Teva two to four weeks before the pollen season , as this will help to prevent the symptoms of hay fever . Your doctor may recommend other medications with Mometasone Teva, especially if you have itching or irritation in the eye. At the end of the pollen season your symptoms of hay fever should be weaker and may not need treatment .

nasal polyps
The recommended dose for adults 18 years and older is two sprays in each nostril once daily.
If symptoms are not controlled after 5 to 6 weeks , the dose may be increased to two sprays in each nostril twice daily. Once symptoms are controlled , your doctor may advise you to reduce the dose to the smallest amount , in which control of symptoms is maintained.
If there is no improvement in symptoms after 5 to 6 weeks twice daily , you should contact your doctor and discuss other treatment which can replace Mometasone Teva .

Preparing the nasal spray for use
Mometasone Teva has a cap that protects the nozzle and keeps it clean.
Do not forget to remove it before use and put it back in place after use.

If you use the spray for the first time, you must " load " bottle, pump spray 10 times until a fine mist :
1. Gently shake the bottle .
2 . Place the index and middle finger on either side of the nozzle and your thumb underneath the bottle. Do not punch the nasal applicator.
3 . Aim nozzle away from you and press with your fingers to inflate the spray. If you have not used it 14 or more days must " load " the bottle as inflated spray 2 times until a fine mist .

In normal dose of two sprays in each nostril once daily for the treatment of hay fever and perennial rhinitis, and nasal polyps, this product should provide enough doses for 15 days ( bottle 60 metered actuations ) and 35 days ( bottle containing 140 metered actuations ) .

How to use the nasal spray
1. Gently agitate the bottle and remove the cap .
2 . Gently blow your nose.
3 . Close one nostril and put the nozzle in the other as shown.
Tilt your head slightly forward , keeping the bottle upright.
4 . Begin to breathe gently and slowly through your nose as you inhale and inject medicine into your nose by pressing once with fingers.
5 . Exhale through your mouth. Repeat step 4 to inhale a second spray in the same nostril.
6 . Remove the tip of the nostril and exhale through the mouth.
7 . Repeat steps 3 to 6 for the other nostril .
After using the spray , wipe the nozzle carefully with a clean cloth and reinstall the cap.

Cleaning the nasal spray
It is important to regularly clean the nasal spray , otherwise it may not work properly. Remove the cap and gently pull the tab . Wash the tip and cap in warm water and then rinse with tap water. Do not try to unblock the nasal tip using a needle or other sharp objects as this may damage it and not get the correct dose of medicine. Allow to dry in a warm place . Place the mouthpiece back in the bottle and put the cap back on . The spray must be recharged with 2 sprays at first use after cleaning.

If you take more dose Mometasone Teva
Tell your doctor if you accidentally take more than prescribed .
If you use steroids for a long time or in large quantities , they can rarely affect some of your hormones. In children, it may affect the growth and development .

If you forget to take Mometasone Teva
If you forget to use the nasal spray at the right time , use it as soon as you remember , and then continue as before. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you stop taking Mometasone Teva
In some patients, Mometasone Teva should begin to relieve symptoms 12 hours after the first dose ; full effect of the treatment , however, can not be observed within two days. It is very important to use the nasal spray regularly. Do not stop treatment even if you feel better, unless your doctor has told you that.

If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4 . Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Rare ( may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) fast reactions hypersensitivity ( allergic ) can occur after use of this product . Very rarely (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people) , these reactions may be severe . If you have wheezing or difficulty breathing, seek immediate medical help.
In rare cases , treatment with a corticosteroid nasal spray such as Mometasone Teva leads to increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma ) and / or cataracts causing visual disturbances . Contact your doctor if you notice any of these side effects .

Most people have no problems after using the nasal spray . The following adverse reactions have been reported :
Common ( may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
headache ;
sneezing and irritation / burning sensation in the nose ;
nosebleeds ;
inflammation of the nose or throat.
Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
changes in taste or smell.
When corticosteroid nasal sprays are used in high doses for long periods of time , side effects may occur very rarely , because the drug is absorbed into the body .
Mometasone Teva contains benzalkonium chloride which may cause skin reactions .

Additional side effects in children and adolescents
The frequency and type of adverse reactions in children are expected to be the same as in adults. When used at high doses for prolonged periods of time , corticosteroid nasal sprays may cause certain side effects , such as growth retardation in children . It is recommended that the height of children receiving prolonged treatment with corticosteroids nasal be monitored regularly and if you notice any changes , their doctor should be notified .

5 . How to store Mometasone Teva
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Mometasone Teva after the expiry date stated on the carton and label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25 ° C. Do not freeze .
The spray should be used within 8 weeks after the first use.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.

6 . Contents of the pack and other information
What does Mometasone Teva
The active agent is mometasone furoate. Each spray (0,1 ml) delivers 50 micrograms of mometasone furoate (as monohydrate ) . The total weight of each spray is 100 mg.
The other ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose and croscarmellose sodium, glycerol, sodium citrate dihydrate, citric acid monohydrate, polysorbate 80 , benzalkonium chloride solution (see section 2 ), and water for injection.

Mometasone Teva looks like and contents of the pack
Teva is mometasone nasal spray suspension.
Each bottle contains 60 , 120 or 140 puffs .
Bottles containing 60 or 120 sprays come in individual packages.
Bottle containing 140 sprays are available in packs of 1 , 2 and 3 nasal spray .
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
