What MONOPROST and what it is used
MONOPROST belongs to a group of medicines called prostaglandins. It reduces the pressure in the eye by increasing the natural flow of fluid from the interior of the eye to the blood stream.
MONOPROST used for treatment of conditions known as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension . Both conditions are associated with increased pressure in the eye and may affect your vision .
2 . What you should know before using MONOPROST
DO NOT use MONOPROST :
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to latanoprost or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in Section 6) ;
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant ;
If you are breastfeeding .
Warnings and Precautions :
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using MONOPROST if you believe that any of these following apply to you :
If you are or have undergone eye surgery (including cataract surgery ) ;
If you have other eye problems (such as eye pain , irritation or inflammation , blurred vision) ;
If you know you suffer from dry eye;
If you have asthma or severe your asthma is not well controlled ;
If you wear contact lenses. You can use MONOPROST , but you must follow the instructions on the wearing of contact lenses, presented in Section 3 ;
If you have had or currently have a viral eye infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
MONOPROST not been studied in children (under 18 years).
Other medicines and MONOPROST :
MONOPROST may interact with other medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used it is possible to use other drugs.
Pregnancy and lactation :
MONOPROST not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant , ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Driving and using machines:
When using MONOPROST may have blurred vision. If this happens to you , do not drive or use any tools or machines until your vision is normal.
Important information about some of the ingredients of MONOPROST :
MONOPROST contains macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate (a derivative of castor oil) , which may cause skin reactions.
3 . How to use MONOPROST
Usual dose :
Always use MONOPROST exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The usual dose for adults (including the elderly ) is one drop daily in the affected eye (s) . The best time to put the drops is night.
Do not use MONOPROST more than once daily as more frequent administration may decrease the effectiveness of treatment .
Always use MONOPROST exactly as your doctor tells you as he tells you to stop using the drops . If you are not sure, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
Wearing contact lenses:
If you wear contact lenses, then you have to download them before using MONOPROST . After applying MONOPROST You have to wait 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses .
Method of administration :
Drops are supplied in single dose packaging . The solution of
individual unit dose packaging MONOPROST should be placed in the affected eye (s) immediately after its opening. Since after opening the sterility of the solution can be maintained, prior to any use to be opened a new pack which is then immediately discarded.
Please observe the following instructions when using the drops :
1. Wash your hands and sit or stand comfortably .
2 . Using your finger gently pull down the lower eyelid of the affected eye .
3 . Bring the tip of the applicator without touching the eye.
4 . Gently squeeze a single use container so that one drop in the eye and then release the lower eyelid .
5 . Use your fingers to the inner corner of the eye to the nose . Hold for one minute while holding the eye closed .
6 . Repeat with the other eye if your doctor has told you to.
7 . After use, dispose of single use container . Do not save for later use .
If you use MONOPROST with other eye drops :
Wait at least 5 minutes between using MONOPROST and other drops .
If you use more than the amount MONOPROST :
If you put more drops in the eye , it can feel a slight eye irritation , tearing and redness, which must pass , but if you are worried contact your doctor for advice.
In case of accidental ingestion of MONOPROST , contact your doctor as soon as possible .
If you forget to put MONOPROST :
Continue with your usual dose at the usual time . Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
If you stop using MONOPROST :
Consult your doctor if you want to stop using MONOPROST .
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine , ask your doctor or pharmacist , or nurse.
4 . Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Very common : may affect more than 1 in 10 patients :
Gradual change in eye color , with increasing the amount of brown pigment in the colored part of the eye called the iris :
If you have hazel eyes (blue -brown , gray- brown, yellow-brown or green -brown ) is more likely to see this change , compared to if you only have one eye color ( blue , gray , green or brown eyes) ;
Sometimes, the occurrence of a change in the color of the eye can take years , although it is usually observed within 8 months of treatment ;
The change in eye color may be permanent and more noticeable if you apply MONOPROST only one eye ;
The change in eye color does not cause any problems ;
The change in eye color did not progress after discontinuation MONOPROST ;
Redness of the eyes ;
Eye irritation ( you may have a burning sensation , " grit " , itching, stinging , or a feeling of something in the eye ) ;
Step change in the affected eye lashes or fine downy hairs around the eye , seen mainly in people of Japanese origin. These changes include darkening , lengthening , thickening and thickening of eyelashes.
Common: may affect up to 1 in 10 people :
Irritation ( inflammation) or breach the surface of the eye, inflammation of the eyelids ( blepharitis ), and eye pain .
Uncommon: may affect up to 1 in 100 patients :
Swelling of the eyelids , dry eyes , inflammation or irritation of the surface of the eye ( keratitis ) , blurred vision and conjunctivitis ;
Skin rash .
Rare: may affect up to 1 in 1000 patients:
Inflammation of the iris , the colored part of the eye ( iritis / uveitis ) , retinal swelling (macular edema) , symptoms of edema or scratching / damage the surface of the eye, swelling around the eye ( periorbital edema ), incorrect direction of eyelash growth or additional row eyelashes;
Skin reactions of the eyelids , eyelid skin darkening ;
Asthma, worsening asthma and difficulty breathing ( dyspnea ) .
Very rare: may affect up to 1 in 10 000 patients :
Worsening of angina in patients with pre-existing cardiac disease;
Chest pain .
Patients have also reported the following side effects: fluid accumulation in the colored part of the eye ( iris cyst ), headache, dizziness , palpitations, muscle pain , joint pain and the development of viral eye infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
If you get any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist , or nurse. This includes all listed in this leaflet .
5 . How to store MONOPROST
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the box and unit dose sachet packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25 ° C.
After first opening the sachet : single-dose containers must be used within 7 days.
After first opening of a single package : unit dose packaging should be used once and discarded after use.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.
6 . Package Contents and more information
What does MONOPROST :
The active agent is latanoprost . 1 ml of eye drops , a solution containing 50 micrograms latanoprost .
Other ingredients are: macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate 40 , sorbitol , carbomer 974P , macrogol 4000 , disodium edetate , sodium hydroxide ( for pH adjustment ), water for injections.
MONOPROST looks like and contents of the pack
This product is available in the form of an eye drop solution in the single-dose container . The solution is a pale yellow and turbid, preservative -free solution contained in single-dose containers , packed in sachets of 5 pieces , each single-dose container containing 0,2 ml of the product.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
The pack contains 5 (1x5), 10 (2x5), 30 (6x5) or 90 (18x5) single-dose containers .
