Each tablet contains 100 mg iron in the form of iron III Hydroxide complex and 0,35 mg of folic acid, cyclamate, aromatic substances and excipients.


Properties and action
Maltofer Fol combined medicinal product containing iron and folic acid for the treatment of iron deficiency and prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency before, during and after pregnancy (during breastfeeding).
The content of folic acid in Maltofer Fol chewable tablets meet the WHO recommendations. Folic acid is important for fetal development Folic acid deficiency during the first weeks of pregnancy can lead to fetal malformations. Iron is an important constituent of hemoglobin, myoglobin and enzymes that contain iron. Iron deficiency is relatively common during pregnancy and lactation, and is manifested with chronic fatigue, lack of concentration, irritability, nervousness, headache, lack of appetite, sensitivity to stress and infection, paleness, cracks in the corners of the mouth (cracks ), dry skin, brittle hair and nails.
The iron in the tablets Maltofer Faull, is in the form of iron III Hydroxide complex, wherein the single particles are embedded in a carbohydrate polymer (polymaltose). This prevents irritation of iron on the gastrointestinal tract. This protection prevents interactions between iron and food and provides the bioavailability of iron.
Maltofer Fol structure is similar to ferritin - naturally occuring iron. Following this similarity, iron is absorbed through natural mechanisms of absorption.
Iron III Hydroxide complex will prooksidativni properties as divalent iron salts.


Evidence
Treatment of latent / hidden / shown and iron deficiency and prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency before, during and after pregnancy (lactation).


Dosage
The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity of iron deficiency.
Manifest iron deficiency: 1 tablet two to three times a day until normal hemoglobin levels. Then therapy should be continued with one tablet daily, at least until the end of pregnancy to replenish the iron stores. Latent / hidden / iron deficiency and prevention of iron and folic acid deficiency: 1 tablet daily.


Application
The daily dosage may be divided into individual doses or may be administered at one time. Maltofer Fol chewable tablets can be chewed or sucked purposes and should not be taken during or immediately after a meal.
In case of acute need for iron / low hemoglobin parallel EPO treatment and others. /, Parenteral iron preparations should be used for iron supply, so that the iron is more highly available.



Contraindications
Overloading the body with iron (hemochromatosis, haemosiderosis) or disturbances in utilization of iron (anemia due to lead poisoning, sideroahrestichna anemia, thalassemia) and anemia not caused by iron deficiency (hemolytic anemia).


Special warnings and precautions for use
Note for diabetics: 0.04 bread units of the tablet.

Interactions

Pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy category A: Reproduction studies in animals have shown no risk to the fetus. Controlled studies in pregnant women after the first trimester, not shown any adverse effects on the mother and fetus. There is no evidence of risk during the first trimester and unintended negative impact on the fetus. Application of Maltofer Fol chewable does not lead to adverse effects on the infant.
During pregnancy and lactation, Maltofer Fol chewable tablets should be taken only after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.



Adverse reactions
Occasionally gastrointestinal irritation as a feeling of fullness, heaviness in the epigastric (upper abdomen), nausea, constipation or diarrhea.
Dark colored stool in connection with iron is of no clinical significance.
Maltofer Fol chewable tablets do not cause dark staining of the teeth.



Overdose
Neither intoxication nor iron overload have been observed in case of overdose.
