WHAT LOSARTAN - Tchaikapharma AND WHAT IT IS USED
Medicinal product Losartan - Tchaikapharma contains as active substance losartan, which belongs to the group of so-called . selective angiotensin II receptor antagonists (type
AT1 ) .
Angiotensin II is a substance that is normally present in the human body and its effect is to constriction of blood vessels , resulting in increased blood pressure.
Losartan - Chaikapharma blocking the effect of angiotensin II, as a result of which the blood vessels expand and blood pressure falls .
If you have high blood pressure and thickened wall of the left ventricle , the main pumping chamber of the heart, blood , your doctor has prescribed Losartan - Tchaikapharma to reduce the risk of stroke / heart attack.
Losartan - Tchaikapharma also protects the kidneys by slowing the deterioration renal damage in patients with type 2 diabetes who have protein in the urine ( proteinuria) .

Losartan - Tchaikapharma be used:
to treat patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) ;
protection of the kidney in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes with laboratory evidence of impaired renal function and proteinuria > 0,5 g per day ( a condition in which urine contains an abnormal amount of protein) ;
for treatment of patients with chronic heart failure when treatment with certain medicines called angiotensin converting enzyme ( ACE inhibitors - medications used to lower blood pressure ) are not considered suitable by your doctor. If your heart failure was stabilized with an ACE inhibitor , you should not be switched to losartan ;
in patients with high blood pressure and a thickening of the wall of the left ventricle, Losartan - Chaikapharma shown to decrease the risk of stroke ("LIFE indication " ) .
2 . BEFORE YOU TAKE losartan - Tchaikapharma
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine.
Do not take Losartan - Tchaikapharma :
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to losartan or any of the other ingredients of the product Losartan - Tchaikapharma ;
If you think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant (see also " Pregnancy and lactation " ) ;
if you are breastfeeding ;
if your liver function is severely impaired .
It is important to tell your doctor if you have or have had any of the above problems.
Take special care with Losartan - Tchaikapharma
It is important to tell your doctor before taking Losartan - Tchaikapharma :
if you have a history of angioedema (swelling of face, lips , throat and / or tongue) ( see also section 4 "Possible side effects") ;
if you suffer from excessive vomiting or diarrhea leading to an extreme loss of fluid and / or salt in your body ;
If you receive diuretics (medicines that increase the amount of fluid in the kidneys) or are on restricted diet of salt, leading to excessive loss of fluid from your body ( see section 3 ' Dosage in special patient groups' ) ;
if you know that you have a narrowing or blockage of the blood vessels leading to your kidneys or if you have recently had a kidney transplant ;

if you suffer from heart failure , with or without renal impairment or threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Special attention should be paid when you are treated with ?- blocker ;
if you have problems with your heart valves or heart muscle;

if you suffer from primary hyperaldosteronism (a syndrome associated with increased secretion of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal gland, caused by an abnormality in the glands ) .
Taking other medicines

You should tell your doctor about all the medicines you take during treatment with Losartan - Tchaikapharma , including those obtained without a prescription . It is important to tell your doctor if you are taking potassium preparations , potassium-sparing agents or salt containing potassium.
It is important to tell your doctor if you are taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs ), including selective COX- 2 inhibitors (COX-2 ) inhibitors because they may reduce the antihypertensive effect of losartan - Tchaikapharma . In some patients with impaired renal function treated with NSAIDs , including selective COX- 2 inhibitors, concomitant use of angiotensin II receptor antagonists such as Losartan - Tchaikapharma may result in further deterioration of renal function. These effects are usually reversible .

Pregnancy and lactation

4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Losartan - Tchaikapharma can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them . Do not store above 25 ° C.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Losartan - Tchaikapharma after the expiry date stated on the carton (after " EXP" ) . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not remove the tablet from the blister unless you are willing to accept them immediately.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.
