Levetiracetam Teva is an antiepileptic medicine (a medicine used to treat seizures in epilepsy).
Levetiracetam Teva is used :
alone in patients over 16 years of age with newly diagnosed epilepsy, to treat partial onset seizures with or without secondary generalization ;
as an adjunct to other anti-epileptic medicaments for the treatment of :
 partial seizures with or without generalization in patients over 1 month of age ;
 myoclonic seizures in patients 12 years of age with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy;
 primary generalized tonic- clonic seizures in patients over 12 years of age with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

Do not take Levetiracetam Teva
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to levetiracetam or any of the other ingredients of Levetiracetam Teva.

Take special care with Levetiracetam Teva
If you have kidney problems, follow your doctor's instructions . He / she can assess whether dose adjustment ;
If you notice any slowdown or unexpected signs of puberty in your child, please call your doctor ;
If you notice an increase in seizure severity ( eg increased number) , please call your doctor ;
Small number of patients who were treated with antiepileptic drugs such as Levetiracetam Teva had thought to hurt myself or kill myself. If you have any symptoms of depression and / or suicidal thoughts, please call your doctor.

Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines , including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Taking Levetiracetam Teva food and drinks
Levetiracetam Teva can be taken with or without food. As a precaution , do not take Levetiracetam Teva with alcohol.

Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine .
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant , please inform your doctor.
Levetiracetam Teva should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary . The potential risk to your unborn child is not known.
Studies of levetiracetam in animals have shown adverse reproductive studies at doses that were significantly higher than those that you need to control your seizures.
Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment .

Driving and using machines
Levetiracetam Teva may affect the ability to drive and use machines as Levetiracetam Teva can cause drowsiness. This is more likely to be observed at the beginning of treatment or after an increase in dose. Do not use any tools or machines until it is established that your ability to perform such activities is not affected.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Levetiracetam Teva
Levetiracetam Teva contain dye tartrazine ( E102 ) which may cause allergic reactions.

Always take Levetiracetam Teva exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor.
Levetiracetam Teva should be taken twice daily , morning and evening at about the same time of day .
Take the number of tablets exactly as your doctor tells you .

Dose in adults and adolescents ( 16 years old ):
Usual dose : between 1000 and 3000 mg daily.
When you first start taking Levetiracetam Teva, your doctor will prescribe a low dose and should not take over 2 weeks to give you the lowest regular dose .
For example : if your daily dose is 1000 mg, you should take one tablet in the morning .

Add-on therapy
Dosage in adults and adolescents ( 12-17 years) weighing 50 kg or more of :
Usual dose : between 1000 and 3000 mg daily.
For example : if your daily dose is 1000 mg, you should take one tablet in the morning .

Dosage in infants ( 6 to 23 months) , children ( 2 to 11 years ) and adolescents (12 to 17 years) weighing less than 50 kg:
Your doctor will prescribe the most appropriate pharmaceutical form of levetiracetam according to age, weight and dose.
Oral solution formulation is best for infants and children under age 6 .
Usual Dose: between 20 mg per kg body weight and 60 mg per kilogram of body weight each day .
For example: if the usual dose is 20 mg per kilogram of body weight each day, you can give your child weighing 25 kg Levetiracetam Teva tablets 250 mg or 500 mg.

Dosage in infants (1 month to less than 6 months ):
For infants of this age, it is more appropriate to use this drug as an oral solution.

Method of administration :
Swallow the tablets Levetiracetam Teva with sufficient liquid ( eg a glass of water).

Duration of treatment :
Levetiracetam Teva is used as a chronic treatment. You should continue treatment with Levetiracetam Teva as long as your doctor recommends .
Do not stop treatment without first talking to your doctor with your doctor as this may be quickened seizures. If your doctor decides to stop your treatment with Levetiracetam Teva, he / she will explain how to gradually discontinue use of Levetiracetam Teva.

If you take a larger dose of Levetiracetam Teva necessary
Possible side effects of overdose with Levetiracetam Teva are drowsiness , agitation , aggression , reduced alertness , respiratory depression and coma.
Tell your doctor if you take more tablets than necessary. Your doctor will take the best possible measures overdose.

If you forget to take Levetiracetam Teva
Tell your doctor if you miss one or more doses.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

If you stop taking Levetiracetam Teva
Upon termination of treatment, as with other antiepileptic drugs , taking Levetiracetam Teva should be discontinued gradually in order to avoid more frequent relapses.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Like all medicines , Levetiracetam Teva can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Tell your doctor if you develop any of the following and they worry you :
Some of the side effects like sleepiness, tiredness and dizziness may occur more frequently at the beginning of treatment or when increasing the dose . These effects are expected to decrease over time.

The frequency of possible side effects listed below have been determined according to the following convention:
Very common (affects more than 1 patient in 10);
Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100) ;
Uncommon ( affects 1 to 10 patients in 1000 ) ;
Rare ( affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000 ) ;
Very rare ( affects less than 1 user in 10,000 ) ;
Not known (evaluation of frequency can not be made from the available data) .

Very common:
asthenia / fatigue ( tiredness) .

infection, nasopharyngitis ;
decreased number of platelets in the blood ;
anorexia ( loss of appetite), weight increase ;
anxiety, depression, emotional instability / mood swings , hostility or aggression , insomnia , nervousness or irritability, personality disorders ( mood problems ) , abnormal thinking (slow thinking , inability to concentrate) ;
dizziness (sensation of unsteadiness) , convulsion , headache, change in behavior (hyperactivity ) , ataxia (lack of coordination of movements), tremor (involuntary trembling), amnesia (loss of memory ), balance disorder ( tripping ) disturbance in attention (loss of concentration) , memory impairment ( forgetfulness) ;
diplopia ( double vision) , blurred vision ;
vertigo ( feelings of dizziness ) ;
cough (increase of pre-existing cough ) ;
abdominal pain, nausea , dyspepsia (indigestion ), diarrhea , vomiting ;
rash , eczema , pruritus ;
myalgia ( muscle pain) ;
accidental injury .

Not known:
decreased number of red and / or white blood cells;
weight loss;
altered behavior , display of anger , anxiety, confusion, hallucinations , psychotic disorders, trials and thoughts of suicide ;
paraesthesia (tingling ) , difficulty in controlling movements ) , uncontrollable muscle spasms affecting the head, body and limbs ;
pancreatitis , hepatic failure, hepatitis, abnormal liver function tests;
hair loss, blisters on the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals , skin rashes.

If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet , please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Levetiracetam Teva after expiry date stated on the carton and blister after " EXP " . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.

What does Levetiracetam Teva
The active substance is called levetiracetam .
One tablet Levetiracetam Teva 1000 mg contains 1000 mg levetiracetam.
Other ingredients are:
Tablet core : corn starch , povidone , croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.
Film coating : hypromellose 6 Wed , titanium dioxide ( E171), macrogol 3350, indigotine ( E132 ) , tartrazine ( E102 ) and iron oxide yellow (E172) .

Levetiracetam Teva looks like and contents of the pack
Yellow , oblong, film-coated tablets scored and debossed with " 9" on one side of the line and "3" on the other side . On the other side of the tablet debossed with " 7286 " .
The score line is only to facilitate breaking for ease of swallowing and not to divide into equal doses .
Levetiracetam Teva is available in packs of 30, 50, 60, 100 , 120 and 200 tablets and 50x1 film-coated tablets in PVC / PVdC - aluminum perforated unit dose blisters.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
