LIFUROX WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED
The active substance of the film is Lifurox cefuroxime (in the form of cefuroxime axetil), which is an antibiotic of the cephalosporin. The antibiotics used to kill the bacteria that cause infections. Lifurox tablets are used to treat respiratory tract infections, ear, nose, throat, genitourinary system, skin, certain infections of the genitals, including gonorrhea and the infection that causes Lyme disease.

2 BEFORE YOU TAKE LIFUROX
Lifurox not take if you are allergic to cefuroxime or any of the other ingredients of Lifurox.
Ask yourself the following questions to see if Lifurox tablets are suitable for you.
Have you ever had an allergic reaction to cefuroxime axetil, cefuroxime, or to other antibiotics (eg. Penicillin) or to any of the substances that come in tablets ?;
Do you take the drug probenecid for gout?
If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, tell your doctor before you start taking Lifurox.

Take special care with Lifurox tablets and consult your doctor:
If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding;
Since as with any antibiotic, continuous use of Lifurox may result in the overgrowth of microorganisms resistant to antibiotics (e.g.. Candida, Enterococci, Clostridium difficile), which may require cessation of treatment. The use of broad-spectrum antibiotics may develop pseudomembranous colitis, which is why in events of severe diarrhea during or after antibiotic use should tell your doctor;
Patients should report the adoption of antibiotic whenever they are about surgery with the possibility of a blood transfusion, and in situations outside the surgical practice requiring transfusion;
If you feel unwell or experience unusual discomfort, tell your doctor as soon as possible;
If you have completed a course of treatment and you feel unwell, consult your doctor as soon as possible.
Transition from parenteral to oral administration of the medicinal product may be made only by medical appointment.

Using other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Tell your doctor specifically if you are taking any of the following medicines:
Concomitant use of probenecid increases the area under the curve, reflecting the average serumnakontsentratsiya of cefuroxime as a function of time by 50%. Increased plasma levels of cefuroxime are reduced by dialysis.
Use of Lifurox with food and drink
Lifurox can be used in foods and beverages.

Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

3 HOW TO TAKE LIFUROX
Always take Lifurox exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The dosage depends on the type of infection:
Adults and children over 12 years
The usual dose is 250 mg twice daily for seven days. The dosage, however, may vary from 125 mg twice daily in the treatment of urinary tract infections and 500 mg twice daily against severe respiratory tract infections. Treatment of Lyme disease was performed with 500 mg of Lifurox for 20 days, and gonorrhea is treated with a single dose of 1 gram.
For the treatment of pneumonia in adults, the usual dose of cefuroxime sodium injection is 1,5 g twice a day for 2 to 3 days, followed by 500 mg of Lifurox tablets twice daily for seven days.
For the treatment of abrupt worsening of chronic bronchitis in adults, the usual dose for injection cefuroxime sodium is 750 mg twice daily for 2 to 3 days, followed by 500 mg of Lifurox tablets twice a day for 5-7 days.
Duration of treatment with both injection cefuroxime sodium, and with cefuroxime axetil tablets, is determined by the severity of the infection and on how to react to the treatment.

Children under 12 years of age
The usual dose is 125 mg twice daily for seven days. For the treatment of otitis media (ear infection), children under 2 years of age should not take more than 125 mg twice daily, and children older than 2 years should not take more than 250 mg twice daily. Children under 3 months should not normally give them Lifurox tablets.
Since Lifurox film-coated tablets should not be broken, are not usually prescribed to young children.
Lifurox tablets are more effective if taken at mealtimes. Tablets should not be chewed or crushed, and should be swallowed whole with a drink of water.

If you take more than you should Lifurox
If you take more than you should and unusual symptoms occur, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
It is important to stick to the dosage you are prescribed. Dose higher than recommended in most cases it is not dangerous unless the tablets are not taken at a time. In this case, contact your doctor immediately or contact your nearest hospital.

If you forget to take Lifurox
Take the missed tablet as soon as you remember, take the next one at the usual time and continue treatment.
Do not take a double dose to make up for lost.

4 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
As with all medications, Lifurox can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Some people are allergic to antibiotics. Tell your doctor if while taking Lifurox notice any of these side effects:
sudden onset of wheezing and tightness in the chest;
swelling of eyelids, face or lips;
bumps on the skin or hives;
rash (red spots), itching, fever;
bubbles in the vicinity of the eyes, mouth, throat, anus and genitals.
Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of these side effects:
nausea or vomiting;
diarrhea, especially if accompanied by bleeding;
headache;
jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes);
unusual change in the urine.
After using Lifurox for the treatment of Lyme disease may develop reactions including fatigue, chills and fever (Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction) occurring two to four hours after taking the antibiotic. This reaction is the result of the microbicidal effect of the drug against the causative organism of the disease - the spirochaete Borrelia burgdorferi. It is important to know that this is a common and self-limiting consequence of the treatment of Lyme disease with antibiotics.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5 STORAGE LIFUROX
Like all medicines, Lifurox tablets should be stored in a place out of sight and reach of children.
Do not store above 25 ° C. Store in original container.
Do not use the tablets after the expiry date printed on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Always return unused tablets to your pharmacist, unless your doctor has told you otherwise.
Do not use Lifurox if you notice discoloration of the tablets.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
