FORTECAL WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED
Fortekal tablets containing bilastine, which is an antihistamine . Fortekal is used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever ( sneezing , itching, runny or stuffy nose, red and watery eyes ) and other similar allergic conditions . It is also used to treat itchy skin rash (hives or urticaria) .
2 . BEFORE YOU TAKE FORTECAL
Do not take Fortecal :
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to bilastine or any of the other ingredients of Fortekal (see section 6 . Additional information).
Take special care with Fortekal :
If you suffer from moderate to severe renal impairment, and if you take other medicines (see below) .
Not suitable for use by children under 12 years.
Do not exceed recommended dose. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Discuss with your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:
ketoconazole (an antifungal drug) ;
erythromycin (antibiotic) ;
diltiazem (used to treat angina) ;
cyclosporine ( lowering of the activity of the immune system , thereby avoiding rejection in transplantation or reducing disease activity in autoimmune or allergic diseases such as psoriasis , atopic dermatitis or rheumatoid dermatitis ) ;
ritonavir ( for HIV) ;
rifampicin ( an antibiotic).
Taking Fortekal with food and drink
These tablets should be taken with food or with grapefruit juice or other fruit juice , as this will reduce the effect of bilastine.
To avoid this , you can:
take a tablet and wait one hour before food or fruit juice ;
If you take food or fruit juice , you must wait 2 hours before taking the tablet .
Pregnancy and lactation
Contact your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding .
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Driving and using machines
A study of the effect of bilastine on ability to drive showed that administration of 20 mg bilastine not affect your ability to drive . However, very rarely some people may appear dizziness, which may affect their ability to drive or operating machinery .
Bilastine recommended dose (20 mg) did not increase the alcohol -induced sleepiness .
3 . HOW TO TAKE FORTECAL
Adults, including the elderly and adolescents over 12 years of age:
It is one tablet a day .
The tablet should be taken on an empty stomach , for example in the morning before breakfast. You should not eat one hour after taking bilastine.
The tablet is swallowed with a glass of water .
The scoreline is not intended to divide the tablet into equal doses . It can be used to break the tablet and to facilitate swallowing .
Regarding the duration of treatment, your doctor will determine the type of your disease and will determine how long you should take Fortekal .
If you take more dose Fortekal
If you or someone else may have taken too much Fortekal , contact your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget to take Fortekal
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you forget to take your dose on time , take it as soon as possible and then go back to your regular dosing schedule .
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Fortecal can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Side effects that may occur are:
Common: affects 1-10 of 100 persons:
Uncommon : affects 1-10 of 1000 persons:
Blood samples that show changes in liver function ;
ECG abnormalities ;
irregular heartbeat ;
tinnitus ( ringing in the ears ) ;
vertigo (feelings of dizziness or vertigo) ;
dyspnea (difficulty breathing) ;
dryness or discomfort in the nose ;
stomach pain ;
nausea (feeling sick) ;
dry mouth ;
gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining ) ;
increased appetite ;
cold sores ;
a feeling of weakness ;
If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet , please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
5 . HOW TO STORE FORTECAL
Keep out of reach of children!
Fortekal not use after the expiry date stated on the carton and blister after " EXP" . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions .
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.
6 . ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What does Fortecal
The active substance is bilastin (bilastine). Each tablet contains 20 mg bilastin .
Other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose , sodium starch glycolate type A (potato starch ) , colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate.
Fortecal looks like and contents of pack
Fortecal tablets are white, oval, biconvex scored .
The tablets are available in blister packs of 10, 20 , 30, 40 or 50 tablets.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
