What is Espumizan and what it is used for

Espumizan contains the active substance simethicone, which belongs to a group of medicinal products called "gastrointestinal agents".

The active substance of Esmumisan, simethicone, breaks down bubbles of gas accumulated in the stomach and intestines. The gases released in this way can be separated in a natural way.


- Symptomatic treatment of stomach or intestinal gastric complaints, such as gas accumulation (flatulence) or swelling and feeling full.
- In preparation for imaging of the stomach and intestines, eg X-ray and ultrasound.

You should consult a doctor if you do not feel better or your condition gets worse.

2. What you need to know before you take Espumizan

DO NOT take Espumizan
If you are allergic to:
- simethicone
- sunset yellow FCF (E 110)
methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218) or
- any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Esmuizan

Gas related complaints may also be a sign of more serious stomach or intestinal problems. Symptoms may include:
• feeling of weight and completeness
• burping
• gurgling the intestine
• swelling

If these complaints occur and / or persist for a long time, you should visit a doctor. He will check if you have a condition that requires another treatment.

Other medicines and Espumizan
No interactions with other medicines are known.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
No negative effects are expected if Espumizasin is taken during pregnancy and lactation because the active substance simethicone does not pass through the stomach and intestine into the bloodstream. However, there are no clinical data on the use of Espumizan in pregnant women.

Driving and using machines
No special precautions are required.

3. How to take Espumizan

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.


The recommended dose is:

Symptomatic treatment of gas, stomach or intestinal complaints, such as flatulence or swelling and feeling full:

Age Dosage Frequency of intake
Children over 6 years of age, adolescents and adults 2 capsules (equivalent to 80 mg simethicone) 3 to 4 times a day
Note: It is also possible to take Espumizan after surgery.

Other formulations (e.g., liquid) are available for infants and children under 6 years of age.

Take Espumizan during a meal or after a meal and, if necessary, before bedtime. Take Esmuizan while you have complaints.
If necessary, Espumizan can be used for a long time. But if the complaints remain, please see "Warnings and precautions" in item 2.

In preparation for imaging of the stomach and intestines, for example X-ray and ultrasound:

Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you think that the effect of Esmucius is too strong or too weak.

If you take more than the necessary dose of Espumizan
No adverse effects are expected in the event of an overdose of Esmumisan. Even large amounts of Espumizan are tolerated without problems.
The active substance of Espumizan, simethicone, causes the bubbles to dissolve in the stomach and intestines in a completely physical way. Simetoncon does not pass into the bloodstream.

If you forget to take Esmumisan
You may take the missed dose at any time.

If you stop taking Esmumisan
You may have complaints again after stopping taking Esmumisan.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

No adverse drug reactions associated with the administration of Espumizan have been observed so far.
Espumizan contains sunset yellow FCF (E 110), which can cause allergic reactions.
Espumizan contains a preservative methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), which can cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed type).
How to store Esmumisan

Keep out of the reach of children!

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the blister and carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Store below 30 ° C!

Do not dispose of medicines in the sewer or in the household waste container. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6. Package Contents and Additional Information

What Essumizan contains
- The active substance is simeticone. One soft capsule of Esmumisan contains 40 mg of simethicone.
- The other ingredients are: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218) [Ph. Eur], gelatin, glycerol (85 percent), quinoline yellow (E104), sunset yellow FCF (E110).

What Esmumisan looks like and what the package contains
Espumizan capsules are almost round, yellow soft gelatin capsules with seam and smooth surface. The contents of the capsules are colorless and may be slightly cloudy.
Espumizan is available in packs of:
25 soft capsules
50 soft capsules
100 soft capsules

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
