WHAT EFLORAN AND WHAT IT IS USED
Metronidazole is an antimicrobial active ingredient from the group of nitroimidazole acting mainly against anaerobic micro-organisms - Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria (Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Eubacterium spp., Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., And other metronidazole anaerobes-sensitive).
It also treats certain infections caused by parasites (trihomonatsidno has a strong and lambliatsidno action).
Efloran infusion is used when it is impossible treatment tablets in emergency cases.
Efloran be used for the treatment of gynecological and some abdominal infections, respiratory tract infections, infections of the bones, joints, skin and soft tissue and periodontal infections of the central nervous system, in infections of the blood (bacteremia, sepsis) and infection of the heart valves (bacterial endocarditis). It is used for treating intestinal infections (enterocolitis). It is also used to prevent infections before surgery on organs of the digestive and reproductive systems.

2. BEFORE YOU ARE GIVEN EFLORAN
You should not use Efloran:
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to metronidazole, some of the other ingredients of Efloran or other drugs with similar chemical structure (nitroimidazoles).
Take special care with Efloran
if you have severe liver injury - due to slowing metabolism serum concentrations of metronidazole and its metabolites are elevated;
if you have chronic renal failure - due to the delayed release of metronidazole dose should be reduced;
if you have damage to the bone marrow or central nervous system.
You should avoid the use of metronidazole, if you exchange violation of the pigments in the blood.
Particular attention is needed also in the elderly.
During prolonged treatment with metronidazole (more than 10 days) should be monitored blood counts and liver function.

Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Efloran can interact with other medications and interactions can enhance or reduce the effect of both drugs. Before starting treatment with Efloran tell your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:
drugs to prevent blood clotting (anticoagulant warfarin and other drugs);
medicines to treat attacks of epilepsy (phenytoin and barbiturates);
medicines to treat mental disorders (lithium);
drugs for the treatment of gastric ulcers (cimetidine).
The concomitant use of metronidazole and medicine to treat alcoholism (disulfiram) is not permitted due to the development of psychiatric disorders (acute psychosis). You should not use metronidazole for two weeks after discontinuation of disulfiram.

Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
The drug should not be administered during the first trimester of pregnancy. Later doctor may prescribe it only if the expected benefit justifies the risk.
The drug is excreted in human milk and therefore you should stop breast-feeding during treatment.

Driving and using machines
The drug can affect the ability to drive and use machines particularly when taken together with alcohol.

3. HOW TO APPLY EFLORAN

Use in Adults
Treatment of anaerobic infections

If you apply more than necessary Efloran
Too high doses can cause mainly nausea, vomiting and dizziness; in severe cases also movement disorder due to uncoordinated action of the muscle (ataxia), numbness and tingling (paraesthesia) and seizures.

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Efloran can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Side effects are rare. Possible side effects may include hypersensitivity reactions (rash, hives, anaphylaxis, angioedema), local reactions at the injection site, gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, abdominal pain, metallic taste, anorexia, rarely vomiting, diarrhea or pancreatitis) transient decrease the number of white blood cells (neutropenia), dark or red-brown colored urine, burning sensation in the urethra or vagina. 5. HOW TO STORE EFLORAN
Keep out of reach of children.
