DURACEF 500 mg. 12 capsules
DURACEF500 mg capsules contain as active substance 500 mg as cefadroxil cefadroxil monohydrate.
DURACEF (cefadroxil) is a semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration.
DURACEF be used to treat these infections, caused by susceptible microorganisms of cefadroxil:
urinary tract infections;
infections of skin and soft tissues;
respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis and tonsillitis).
2. BEFORE YOU TAKE DURACEF
Do not take DURACEF
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefadroxil monohydrate or any other ingredients of DURACEF
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
Take special care with DURACEF
if you are allergic to penicillin. Cephalosporin antibiotics should be used with caution in patients allergic to penicillin. There are cases of patients with an allergic reaction to the two types of antibiotics (including fatal anaphylaxis after parenteral use);
if after taking Duratsef appear diarrhea. There have been reports of pseudomembranous colitis (severe inflammation of the bowel) for use of cephalosporins (and other broad spectrum antibiotics), so it is important to bear in mind the diagnosis of patients in whom appears diarrhea associated with antibiotic use;
If you have impaired renal function. Duratsef (cefadroxil) should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function;
if you have gastrointestinal disorders. Duratsef should be prescribed with caution in patients with gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.
Taking other medicines
No studies on interactions with other medicines.
During therapy with cephalosporin antibiotics can occur a false positive direct test Coombs (type blood test). Can be prepared and false positive results in the determination of glucose in urine.
Tell your doctor if you take:
other antibiotics (aminoglycosides, polymyxin B, vancomycin, colistin);
medicines for drainage (diuretics);
probenecid (a medicine for gout);
drugs to prevent blood clotting (warfarin, aspirin);
birth control pills.
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Taking DURACEF with food and drink
DURACEF is acid resistant and can be taken with or without food.
Adoption at mealtimes can be useful because it reduces the possible complaints from the gastrointestinal tract, sometimes associated with treatment with cephalosporins.
Pregnancy and lactation
This product can be used during pregnancy only if clearly expressed need.
DURACEF is distributed into breast milk, therefore be used with caution in nursing mothers.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Driving and using machines
No studies on the effects on ability to drive and use machines.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Duratsef
Duratsef capsules contain lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this product.
3. HOW TO TAKE DURACEF
Always take DURACEF exactly as your doctor tells you. If you're not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults and children weighing over 40 kg:
Urinary tract infections
The typical dose in uncomplicated infections of the lower urinary tract (eg. Cystitis) is 1 to 2 g per day in a single dose or divided into 2 doses.
In all other urinary tract infections ordinary dosage is 2 g, divided into two doses.
Typically, dosages in skin infections in 1 g once a day or divided into 2 doses.
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis (throat infections) caused by beta-hemolytic group A streptococci
For the treatment of beta-hemolytic streptococcus group A for tonsillitis and pharyngitis recommended 1 g once daily or divided into 2 doses.
Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract
In mild infections, the daily dose is usually 1 g, divided in 2 doses (500 mg twice a day).
At moderate and severe infections, the recommended dose of 1 g to 2 g daily - 2 times a day (500 mg to 1 g per 12 hours).
Children weighing less than 40 kg:
This medicinal product must not be used in children under 6 years old or weighing less than 40 kg.
In patients with renal impairment, the dosage of cefadroxil should be adjusted depending on the values of clearance to prevent accumulation of the drug.
If you take more dose DURACEF
If you take more dose DURACEF consult a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department.
The adoption of the quantities of less than 250 mg / kg Duratsef or another cephalosporin is not associated with toxicity and does not require special treatment. Upon acceptance of quantities above 250 mg / kg (5 to 10 times the recommended dose) have been reported some cases of gastrointestinal disorders and rash.
If you forget to take DURACEF
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, take it as usual and continue to take DURACEF according to the prescribed schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up the missed dose.
If you stop taking DURACEF
Do not stop taking Duratsef, even if you feel better. Finish the course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor. Premature discontinuation of treatment may cause resumption of infection.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Duratsef can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Gastrointestinal disorders - can be symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis during antibiotic treatment. Common side effects are nausea, vomiting and indigestion. Adoption during meals reduces nausea, without interfering with the absorption. Sometimes occurs diarrhea.
Hypersensitivity - allergies were observed in the form of itching, rash, urticaria and angioedema (swelling of the eyelids, face, tongue, throat). Reported rarely erythema multiforme syndrome, Stevens-Johnson (severe skin reactions with blistering), serum sickness, and anaphylaxis. These reactions usually resolve with discontinuation.
Other side effects: genital itching, genital candidiasis (fungal infection of the genitals), vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina), moderate neutropenia (low white blood cell) and a slight increase in serum transaminases (liver function tests). As with other antibiotics in this class are rarely reported agranulocytosis (disappearance of certain types of blood cells), thrombocytopenia (low platelets) and arthralgia (joint pain).

5. HOW TO STORE DURACEF
Store below 30 ° C in a dry place.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Duratsef after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
