What is Co-Irbeso and what it is used?
Co-Irbeso is a combination of two active substances, irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
Irbesartan belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-II receptor antagonists. Angiotensin-II is a substance produced in the body and binds to receptors in blood vessels causing them to tighten. This leads to lower blood pressure. Irbesartan prevents the binding of angiotensin-II to these receptors, causing the vessels to relax and blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a group of medicines that cause increased urine output, leading to a lowering of blood pressure.
The two active ingredients in Co-Irbeso work together to lower blood pressure further than if either was given alone.
Co-Irbeso used to treat high blood pressure when treatment with irbesartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone did not provide adequate control of your blood pressure.
Before you take Co-Irbeso:
Do not take Co-Irbeso:
If you are allergic to irbesartan or any other ingredients of Co-Irbeso;
If you are pregnant after the third month;
If you have severe liver or kidney disease;
If you have difficulty urinating;
If you have a constant level of calcium or low potassium levels in the blood.
Co-Irbeso should not be given to children and adolescents.
Take special care with co-Irbeso:
Tell your doctor if any of the following apply to you:
If you suffer from excessive vomiting or diarrhea
If you have kidney problems or have a kidney transplant
If you have liver problems
If you suffer from diabetes
If you suffer from lupus erythematosus
If you suffer from primary aldosteronism
You must tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Co-Irbeso not recommended in early pregnancy, and must not be taken if you are pregnant after three months, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used at that stage.
You need to make your blood if you are taking:
Potassium-sparing medicines or other diuretics
Medicines for gout
Therapeutic vitamin D supplements
Medicines to control heart rhythm
Medicines for diabetes
It is also important to tell your doctor if you take other medicines to lower blood pressure, steroids, medicines to treat cancer, pain killers or anti-inflammatory drugs.
Co-administration of Irbeso food and drink
Co-Irbeso can be taken with or without food.
Due to the hydrochlorothiazide Co-Irbeso if you drink alcohol while on treatment with this medicine may increase the feeling of light-headedness on standing, especially when getting up from a sitting position.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Your doctor will advise you to stop taking Co-Irbeko before you become pregnant or as soon as you know you are pregnant and will advise you to take another medicine. Co-Irbeso not recommended in early pregnancy, and must not be taken if you are pregnant after three months, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used after the third month of pregnancy.
Co-Irbeso not recommended for mothers who are breast feeding, and your doctor may choose another treatment for you if you wish to breast-feed, especially if your baby is newborn, or was born prematurely.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Co-Irbeso
Co-Irbeso contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
How to take Co-Irbeso?
Always take Co-Irbeso exactly as your doctor has told you. If you're not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Co-Irbeso will be prescribed by your doctor usually when previous treatment did not reduce your blood pressure enough. Your doctor will tell you how to switch from the previous treatment of the Co-Irbeso.
The usual dose of Co-Irbeso 150 mg/12, 5 mg one or two tablets daily.
The usual dose of Co-Irbeso 300 mg/12, 5 mg one tablet daily.
Maximal blood pressure lowering effect should be reached 6-8 weeks after beginning treatment.
Method of application:
Co-Irbeso for oral administration. The tablets should be taken with sufficient liquid. You can take and Co-Irbeso or without food.
You should try to take your daily dose every day at the same time. It is important to continue taking Co-Irbeso until your doctor tells you otherwise.
Possible side effects:
Common - nausea / vomiting, abnormal urination, fatigue, dizziness, blood tests may show raised levels of an enzyme that is measured by the muscle and heart function or elevated levels of substances which help to estimate renal function.
Uncommon - diarrhea, low blood pressure, fainting, fast heartbeat, redness, swelling, and sexual dysfunction. Blood tests may show low levels of potassium and sodium in your blood.
Adverse reactions reported after the introduction of co-Irbeso:
The frequency of these effects is not known. These side effects are: headache, ringing in the ears, cough, taste disturbances, indigestion, pain in joints and muscles, liver function and renal impairment, elevated potassium levels and allergic reactions such as rash, hives, swelling of face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat.
Additional side effects associated with hydrochlorothiazide: loss of appetite, stomach irritation, stomach cramps, constipation, jaundice, inflammation of the pancreas characterized by severe pain in the upper stomach, sleep disturbances, depression, blurred vision, chest problems, increased skin sensitivity to the sun, inflammation of blood vessels, skin disease, characterized by peeling skin all over the body, weakness and muscle spasms, altered heart rate, low blood pressure after a change in body position; swelling salivary glands, high blood sugar, urine sugar.
The active substances are irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, poloxamer 188, pregelatinized starch.
