Clarithromycin WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED

Clarithromycin belongs to the group of macrolide antibiotics.
Clarithromycin is used to treat infections caused by susceptible to clarithromycin
microorganisms:
 Upper respiratory tract infections (otitis media, sinus, throat, tonsils, bronchi and lungs);
 Skin and subcutaneous tissue;
 It is also used for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers in combination with other drugs prescribed by doctors.
 
Clarithromycin is used in adults and children 12 years and older.
 

 BEFORE YOU TAKE Clarithromycin

 
Do not take Fromilnd:
 if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to clarithromycin, certain ingredients of Clarithromycin tablets or to other macrolide antibiotics;
 if you have low blood potassium (himokaliemiya);
 if you have severe liver failure and kidney problems;
 if you are taking medicines for high cholesterol (such as lovastatin or simvastatin);
 If you and / or someone in your family have heart problems that can lead to serious heart rhythm abnormalities (syndrome of long QT);
 If you are already taking any of the following: ergotamine or dihydroergotamine (for migraine);
 cisapride (for stomach disorders);
pimozide (for some mental disorders);
astemizole or terfenadine (for hay fever or allergies).
 
 
Take special care with Clarithromycin:
Consult your doctor before taking Clarithromycin:
 If you have severe kidney problems;
 If you have liver disease;
 If you develop severe or prolonged diarrhea during or after taking Clarithromycin, you should consult your doctor immediately;
 If you suffer from a disease called myasthenia gravis;
 If you are already taking colchicine as this can cause serious side effects;
 Long term use of Clarithromycin may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria (superinfection);
 If you have any heart disease;
 If you have a slow heart rate (bradycardia);
 If you have low levels of magnesium in your blood;
If you suffer from porphyria, you should not take clarithromycin.
 
Taking other medicines
 
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
The effect of treatment can be affected if Clarithromycin is taken with certain other medicines. You may need to change the dose, to take other precautions or, in some cases, to stop taking one of the medications. This especially applies to the following medicines:
 Carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, valproate (epilepsy drugs);
 Theophylline (for asthma);
 Warfarin (blood thinner);
 Ergotamine or dihydroergotamine (for migraine);
 Triazolam, midazolam or alprazolam (sedatives);
 Disopyramide, digoxin, quinidine or verapamil (used to treat heart rhythm disorders);
 Simvastatin or lovastatin (used to treat high cholesterol);
 Pimozide (used to treat schizophrenia and other mental illnesses);
 Fluconazole or itraconazole (for fungal infections);
 Rifabutin, rifampicin (an antibiotic effective against some infections);
 Efavirenz, nevirapine, zidovudine, ritonavir, atazanavir or saquinavir (medicines for HIV);
 Cyclosporine, tacrolimus or sirolimus (after organ transplants);
 Astemizole or terfenadine (for hay fever or allergies);
 Omeprazole or cisapride (for stomach disorders);
 Colchicine (for gout);
 Tolterodine (for bladder problems);
 Insulin or oral antidiabetic drugs (for diabetes);
 St. John's wort (a herbal medicine);
 Cilostazol (to improve circulation in the legs);
 Methylprednisolone (inflammatory disease);
 Sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil (erectile dysfunction);
Vinblastine (cancer treatment).
 
Taking Clarithromycin tablets with food and drink
You can take Clarithromycin without food. Swallow the tablets with at least half a cup of liquid.
 
Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
As the safety of Clarithromycin tablets during pregnancy has not been established, you can take only according to the benefit / risk ratio.
It is not recommended to breast-feed during treatment with Clarithromycin.
 
Driving and operating machinery
Clarithromycin tablets may make you feel confused, disoriented or dizzy, cause seizures, panic or changes in sense of reality, or seeing things that are not there. Make sure you also affected before you drive or operate machinery.
 

 HOW TO TAKE Clarithromycin

 
Always take Clarithromycin tablets exactly as your doctor tells you. If you're not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
You should not crush tablets. Swallow them whole with at least half a cup of liquid.
Adults and children over the age of 12 is usually given 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours.
Treatment continued for 6 to 14 days.
To treat pa infections with Helicobacter pylori, associated with duodenal ulcers.
There are several effective combinations of drugs for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori, in which Clarithromycin tablets are taken with one or two other drugs. Your doctor will decide which of the combinations is best for your treatment.
The dosage and length of treatment depend on the type of infection, site of infection, age of the patient and response to treatment. Take medication as prescribed by your doctor.
If you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.
 
If you take more than you need Clarithromycin
If you take an overdose you should immediately consult your doctor or pharmacist. Overdose typically causes gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain), headache and confusion. Treatment is symptomatic.
 
If you forget to take Clarithromycin
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you forget to take a dose at the right time, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missing dose and usual dosing schedule.
 
If you stop taking Clarithromycin
Take the medicine for as long as your doctor prescribes. If you stop treatment too early, the disease can recur.

 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

 
Like all medicines, Clarithromycin tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Adverse reactions are classified into the following groups according to frequency:
 Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 users;
 Common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100;
 Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1000;
 Rare: affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000;
 Very rare: affects less than 1 user in 10,000;
 Not known: frequency can not be made from the available data.
 
Common
 
 insomnia;
 headache, altered sense of taste;
 diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, indigestion (dyspepsia), stomach pain;
 abnormal liver test;
 rash, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
 
Uncommon
 
 infections, infections of the stomach and intestines, thrush, vaginal infections;
 low levels of white blood cells, anemia, and other disorders of white blood cells;
 loss of appetite;
 nervousness, anxiety, hysterical laughter;
 dizziness, drowsiness, shaking (tremor);
 tinnitus, vertigo (dizziness) and ear disorders;
 changes in heart rate, feeling your heartbeat (palpitations);
 nosebleeds;
 inflammation of the mouth (stomatitis), inflammation of the tongue (glossitis), inflammation of the stomach (gastritis), heavy episodic rectal pain (proktalgiya);
constipation, dry mouth, belching, bloating, excess gas in the stomach and vomiting, reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus (GERD);
violation of bile flow (cholestasis), inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
itching, hives, fever, and small red spots on the skin (maculopapular rash);

 severe or persistent diarrhea which may have blood or mucus (pseudomembranous colitis), skin infections (erysipelas, eritrazma);
 sharp drop in the number of white blood cells which makes infections more likely (agranulocytosis);
 decrease in blood platelets (thrombocytopenia);
 serious allergic reaction that causes breathing difficulties, or dizziness (anaphylactic reaction);
 low blood sugar (hypoglycemia);
 abnormal dreams, confusional state, disorientation, seeing or hearing things (hallucinations), psychotic disorder, depression;
 seizures, inability to taste, changes in smell;
 hearing loss;
 irregular heartbeat, rapid heartbeat;
 bleeding;
 inflammation of the pancreas, tongue and discolored teeth;
 yellowing of the skin and other liver disorders;
 serious illness with blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals (syndrome Stevens-Johnson), severe illness and scaling of the skin (toxic epidermal necrolysis), acne, rash medicines;
 abnormal muscle breakdown, which can lead to kidney problems (rhabdomyolysis), pain or muscle weakness (myopathy);
 renal failure;
 increased risk of bleeding, change in urine color.

 HOW TO STORE Clarithromycin

 
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not store above 25 ° C. Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
Clarithromycin should not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Clarithromycin
The active substance is clarithromycin (clarithromycin).
