What is cefixime 400 and what it is used
Cefixime 400 belonging to the group of drugs known as cephalosporins, which are used to treat infections in adults and children.

Cefixime 400 can be used to treat infections sensitive to:
infection of the middle ear;
sinus infection;
throat infection;
infection causing sudden worsening of long flowing bronchitis;
severe lung infections (pneumonia) acquired outside the hospital;
urinary tract infections.

2 What you should know before using cefixime 400
Do not take cefixime 400:
if you are allergic to cefixime or any other ingredients of this medicine (listed in Section 6). An allergic reaction may include rash, itching, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, throat, or tongue;
if you are allergic to other cephalosporin antibiotics;
if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to a penicillin antibiotic or another beta-lactam antibiotic.
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking cefixime 400.

Before taking cefixime 400 , you should tell your doctor:
if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, or to any other antibiotic of the beta-lactam group. Not all people are allergic to penicillins are allergic to cephalosporins. However, take special care if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any antibiotic penicillin. This is because you may be allergic to tons of medicine.
In patients who develop severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing or dizziness) after administration of cefixime 400 , the drug should be discontinued and appropriate treatment administered.
if you have ever been told that your kidneys do not work very well. Also, if you carry out any treatment (such as dialysis) concerning renal failure. You can take cefixime 400, but you may need a lower dose;
if you have severe or persistent diarrhea that can be bloody and can be combined with abdominal pain or cramps: These symptoms may occur during or shortly after treatment and report the rare but potentially life-threatening adverse reaction. Stop taking cefixime 400 immediately contact your doctor. Should not be taking drugs that slow or stop motility.
Treatment course with cefixime 400 may temporarily increase the probability to capture infections caused by germs that cefixime 400 does not work. May appear thrush (an infection caused by a fungus called Candida (Candida)).

Effects on laboratory tests
If you do a blood test or urine tests, tell your doctor that you are taking cefixime 400 as cefixime may affect the results of some of these studies.
cefixime 400 can affect the results of some tests for urine glucose (such as samples of Benedict or Febling). If you have diabetes and test your urine regularly, tell your doctor. This is because you need to use other tests for diabetes control while you are taking this medicine.
cefixime 400 can affect the results of blood tests for antibodies called test Coombs.

Other drugs and cefixime 400
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take other medicines.

In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:
anticoagulant (blood thinning) therapy with drugs such as warfarin.
cefixime 400 food, beverages and alcohol
Cefixime 400 can be taken before or after a meal. You should swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines
Usually cefixime 400 does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you feel lightheaded or dizzy, do not drive or operate machinery.

3 How to take cefixime 400
Always use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will decide the right dose of cefixime 400 and will tell you how long to take your medicine. The number of tablets cefixime 400 , which need to take will depend on your condition. Follow the instructions of your doctor and never change the dose yourself you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how much medicine to take and when to take it.

adults
The recommended dose is one or two tablets cefixime 400 day. If a day were prescribed two tablets cefixime 400 , they may be adopted at a reception in one dose or two divided doses.
If your doctor has prescribed a dose, it should be taken every 24 hours. If your doctor has prescribed two doses daily, each dose should be taken every 12 hours (you may find it more convenient to take one dose in the morning and one evening). This medication should always be taken at the same time each day.

Elderly (over 64 years)
In elderly patients, the rates are the same as in adults with normal renal function.

Patients with kidney problems
In adult patients with kidney problems, the dose of cefixime 400 may need to be reduced. Your doctor will calculate the correct dose for you according to the results of blood tests or urine tests that show how well your kidneys are working and also the severity of your infection.
Data on the use of cefixime 400 children and adolescents with kidney problems are not enough. Therefore cefixime 400 is not recommended for use in these patients.

Use in children and adolescents
Adolescents over 12 years of age
Adolescents over 12 years of age can be given the same dose as adults.

For children older than 6 months and 11 years of age
For children older than 6 months and 11 years of age cefixime should be given more as an oral suspension (liquid, which must be held in the mouth), but not as a tablet.

Children under 6 months
cefixime 400 is not recommended for use in children under 6 months of age.

If you take more dose cefixime 400
If you accidentally take too many tablets or child has swallowed tablets cefixime 400 immediately contact an emergency center at your nearest hospital or your doctor.

If you forget to take cefixime 400
If you forget to take a tablet, take one as soon as you remember. However, if your next dose is less than 6 hours, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses.

If you stop taking cefixime 400
Do not stop treatment early because it is important to complete the full course of treatment with this medicine to reduce the likelihood of a return of the infection.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4 Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects are important and will require immediate action if you get them. You should stop taking cefixime and go to the doctor immediately if you experience the following symptoms:
Rare side effects (affects less than 1 in 1000 patients) include:
swelling of the face, tongue and windpipe which can cause severe difficulty in breathing.
Very rare side effects (affects less than 1 in 10,000 patients) include:
watery and severe diarrhea, which may be bloody;
sudden allergic reaction with difficulty breathing, rash, wheezing and a sharp drop in blood pressure;
heavy, widespread rash with blisters.
Also reported the following side effects:
Common side effects (affects less than 1 in 10 patients) include:
diarrhea.
Uncommon side effects (affects less than 1 in 100 patients) include:
headache;
nausea;
vomiting;
stomach (abdominal) pain;
changes in laboratory tests indicative of liver function;
skin rash.
Rare side effects (affects less than 1 in 1000 patients) include:
infections caused by germs which cefixime not operate. For example, thrush;
loss of appetite;
flatulence (gas);
changes in laboratory tests indicative of kidney function;
fever;
allergic reaction;
dizziness;
ITCHY SKIN;
inflammation of the lining of the mouth and / or other internal surfaces.
Very rare side effects (affects less than 1 in 10,000 patients) include:
reducing the number of different blood cells (symptoms may include fatigue, new infections and bruising or bleeding after minor trauma);
excitement and increased activity;
liver problems, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes);
inflammation of the kidneys.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or you notice other effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

5 How to store cefixime 400
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use cefixime 400 after the expiry date (EXP) which is stated on the product packaging. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25 ° C.
Keep the blister in the outer carton.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What does cefixime 400
The active substance is cefixime. Each tablet contains 447,63 mg cefixime trihydrate equivalent to 400 mg of cefixime.
The other ingredients are cellulose microcrystalline, starch, pregelatinized, silica colloidal anhydrous, magnesium stearate, calcium phosphate dibasic anhydrous, opadry white Y-1-7000.
Opadry white Y-1-7000 contains: Hypromellose (E 464), macrogol 400 (E 1520), titanium dioxide (E 171).
