Candesartan  WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR?

The name of your medicine is Candesartan. Active ingredient is candesartan cilexetil. It belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Its action leads to relaxation and dilation of blood vessels. This helps to lower your blood pressure. It's also easier for the heart to pump blood to all parts of your body.
 
This medicine is used for:
 
 Treatment of high blood pressure in adults
 Treatment of adult patients with heart failure with reduced function of the heart muscle, as adjunctive therapy to angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or when not to use ACE inhibitors
 

BEFORE YOU USE candesartan

 
Do not use Candesartan
 
 If you are allergic to candesartan cilexetil or any of the other ingredients of Candesartan
 If you are more than 3 months pregnant
 If you have severe liver disease or obstruction of the gallbladder
 
Obartete special care with Candesartan:
 
Before or while taking Candesartan tell your doctor if:
 You have heart problems, liver or kidney problems, or if you are on dialysis
 Have recently had a kidney transplant
 Vomit, have recently had severe vomiting or have diarrhea
 Have low blood pressure
 Have ever had a stroke
 
If you have surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking candesartan. This is necessary because when Candesartan combined with some anesthetics, this can cause a drop in blood pressure.
 
Use in children:
 
No experience with Candesartan in children under 18 years.
 
Taking other medicines:
 
In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:
 Other medicines that lower blood pressure, including beta-blockers, and ACE inhibitors diazoxide
 NSAIDs
 Aspirin
 Potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium
 Heparin
 Water tablets
Lithium
 
Use of Candesartan with food and drink
 
 You can take Candesartan with or without food
When you are prescribed karsdesartan, consult your doctor before drinking alcohol. Alcohol can make you feel weak or dizzy.
 

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING:

 
You should tell your doctor if you think you are pregnant. Use of Candesartan HCT is not recommended in early pregnancy, and must not take it if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used after the third month of pregnancy.
Use of Candesartan NTC breastfeeding is not recommended.
 
 

DRIVE AND USE MACHINES

 
Some people may feel tired or dizzy when taking Candesartan HCT.
If this happens to you, do not drive or operate any tools or machines.
 
Important information about some of the ingredients of candesartan
 
It contains lactose which is a sugar.
 

HOW TO USE candesartan

 
High blood pressure:
 
Candesartan usual dose is 8 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase this dose to 16 mg once daily and up to 32 mg once daily depending on blood pressure response.
 
In some patients, for example. with liver problems, kidney problems or patients who have recently lost body fluids, eg. through vomiting or diarrhea, or by using water tablets, your doctor may prescribe a lower starting dose.
 
Some black patients may have a reduced response to this type of medicine, when used as the sole treatment, and these patients may need a higher dose.
 
Heart failure:
 
 The usual starting dose is Candesartan 4 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose by doubling the dose at intervals of at least 2 weeks to 32 mg once daily. Candesartan can be taken with other medicines for heart failure, your doctor will decide which treatment is right for you.
 

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

 
Stop taking Candesartan NTC and seek immediate medical attention if any of the following allergic reactions:
 Difficulty in breathing, with or without swelling of the face, lips, tongue and / or throat
 Swelling of the face, lips, tongue and / or throat that may cause difficulty in swallowing.
 Intense skin itching
 
Candesartan HCT may cause a decrease in the number of white blood cells. Your resistance to infection may be decreased and may have fatigue, infection or fever. Other possible side effects include:
 
Common:
 
Changes in blood test results:
 Reduced amount of sodium in the blood.
 Increased or decreased amounts of potassium in the blood, especially if you already have kidney problems or heart failure.
 High amounts of cholesterol, sugar, uric acid
 
Sugar in urine
 Feeling dizzy
 Headache
 Respiratory tract infection
 
Uncommon:
 
 Low blood pressure
Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, stomach irritation
 
Rare:
 
 Jaundice
 Effects on the kidneys
 Difficulty sleeping, depression, anxiety
 Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
 Abnormal heart rhythm
 Difficulty in breathing
 Fever
 Inflammation of the pancreas
Muscle cramps
 Damage to blood vessels, leading to the appearance of red or purple dots on the skin.
 Skin rash that develops quickly, blistering or peeling of the skin and possibly blisters in the mouth.
 Worsening of existing events, like lupus erythematosus, or appearance of unusual skin reactions.
 
Very rare:
 
 Swelling of the face, lips, tongue and / or throat
 Itching
 Back pain, pain in joints and muscles
Changes in the liver
 Nausea
 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

 
Active ingredient is candesartan cilexetil.
The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, corn starch, hydroxypropyl cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate and triethyl citrate.
