What Ciprofloxacin Actavis is and what it is used
Ciprofloxacin Actavis is antibacterial agent from the group of fluoroquinolones . The active substance is ciprofloxacin . Ciprofloxacin works by killing certain bacteria that cause infection .
Ciprofloxacin Actavis is used in adults to treat the following bacterial infections:
respiratory tract infections ;
prolonged or repeated ear infections or sinus ;
urinary tract infections ;
infection of the testicles ;
genital infections in women ;
infections of the gastrointestinal tract, and abdominal infections ;
infections of skin and soft tissue ;
infections of the bones and joints ;
infections in patients with severe neutropenia ( very low number of leukocytes in the blood) ;
for the prevention of infections in patients with severe neutropenia ;
Prevention of infection with Neisseria meningitidis;
inhaling anthrax spores.
If you have a severe infection or one caused by more than one species of bacteria you may be assigned additional antibiotic treatment with Ciprofloxacin Actavis .
2 . What you should know before using Ciprofloxacin Actavis
Do not take Ciprofloxacin Actavis if:
are allergic ( hypersensitive) to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone drugs or any of the other ingredients of the product listed in paragraph 6 ;
taking tizanidine ( see Section 2: Taking other medicines).
Tell your doctor if :
have ever had kidney problems because your treatment needs to be adjusted ;
suffer from epilepsy or other neurological diseases;
have a history of tendon problems during previous treatment with antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin Actavis ;
have myasthenia gravis (a type of muscle weakness)
have a history of abnormal heartbeat ( arrhythmia ) ;
you are born with or have a family history of QT prolongation (which is observed on ECG, electrical recording of the heart ) if you have an imbalance of salts in the blood (especially low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood ) if you have a very slow heart rhythm (bradycardia ), heart failure ( heart muscle weakness ) , data on myocardial infarction , if you are a woman or an elderly patient , or are taking other drugs , leading to changes in the ECG (see taking other medicines ) .
While taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms while taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis . Your doctor will decide whether treatment with Ciprofloxacin Actavis should be discontinued .
Severe, sudden allergic reaction ( anaphylactic reaction / shock , angioedema ) . Ever since the first dose, there is a small chance that you may experience a severe allergic reaction with the following symptoms: difficulty in breathing or dizziness, fainting , swelling of the face or throat. If you have something like this happen , stop taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis and contact your doctor ;
Pain and swelling in the joints and inflammation of the tendon may occur occasionally, particularly if you are elderly and are treated with corticosteroids. At the first sign of pain or inflammation , stop taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis and leave the rest the painful area . Avoid unnecessary stress because it may increase the risk of tendon rupture ;
If you suffer from epilepsy or other neurological disorders such as impaired blood supply to the brain or stroke , it is possible to get reactions associated with the central nervous system. If you have something like this happen , stop taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis and contact your doctor ;
The first time you take Ciprofloxacin Actavis is possible to get physical reactions . Tell the doctor or laboratory staff that you are taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis if you take samples of blood or urine ;
Ciprofloxacin Actavis can cause liver damage . If you notice symptoms such as loss of appetite, jaundice ( yellowing skin extraction ) dark urine , itching or tenderness of the stomach , stop taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis and contact your doctor immediately ;
Ciprofloxacin can reduce the number of white blood cells and your resistance to infection may be decreased . If you have an infection with symptoms such as fever and serious deterioration of your general condition, or fever with local infection symptoms such as sore throat / pharynx / mouth or urinary problems you should immediately see your doctor . A blood test will determine the possible reduction in the number of white blood cells ( agranulocytosis) . It is important to tell your doctor that you are taking ciprofloxacin ;
Tell your doctor if you or your family member has a lack of glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase . This family history of impaired glucose uptake carries the risk of anemia after taking ciprofloxacin ;
When taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis your skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight and UV rays. Avoid exposure to strong sunlight or artificial sources of UV light such as tanning salons .
Other medicines and Ciprofloxacin Actavis
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking , have recently taken or might take other medicines.
Do not take Ciprofloxacin Actavis with tizanidine , because this can lead to side effects such as low blood pressure and sleepiness (see "Do not take Ciprofloxacin Actavis " ) .
Some of the drugs may be reacted with ciprofloxacin in the body. If you are taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis is both these medicines can influence the curative effects or increase the likelihood of adverse reactions.
Tell your doctor if you take:
drugs that prolong the QT-interval and lead to changes in the electrocardiogram ( eg antiaritmititsite quinidine hydroquinidine , disopyramide , amiodarone , sotalol , dofetilide , ibutilide , tricyclic antidepressants ( such as amitriptyline and imipramii ), certain antibiotics ( belonging to the group of macrolides as erythromycin , clarithromycin, azithromycin ) , some antipsychotics ;
probenecid ( for gout)
omeprazole ( for treating ulcers ) ;
tizanidine ( for muscle spasms in multiple sclerosis ) ;
methotrexate ( for certain types of cancer , psoriasis , rheumatoid arthritis ) ;
theophylline ( for breathing problems)
phenytoin ( for epilepsy) ;
cyclosporin ( for suppressing immunity ) ;
Vitamin K antagonists ( blood thinners ) such as warfarin, acenocoumarol , phenprocoumon , fluindione ;
glibenclamide ( for diabetes ) ;
duloxetine ( for treating depression ) ;
ropinirole ( for Parkinson's disease ) ;
lidocaine ( a topical analgesic and an irregular heartbeat ) ;
clozapine ( an antipsychotic ) ;
sildenafil ( in violation of erection ) .
Ciprofloxacin Actavis may increase the levels of these medicines in your blood :
pentoxifylline ( for circulatory disorders ) ;
Some drugs reduce the effect of Ciprofloxacin Actavis . Tell your doctor if you are taking or plan to take :
mineral supplements ;
phosphate binding polymer (e.g., sevelamer ) ;
medicines or supplements containing calcium, magnesium , aluminum, or iron / eg didanosine tablets) .
If these items are important to you, take Ciprofloxacin Actavis about 2 hours before or no sooner than 4 hours after them.
Ciprofloxacin Actavis with food and drink
If you are taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis during regular meals , do not eat or drink any dairy products (such as milk or yoghurt ) or drinks with added calcium when taking the tablets because they can interfere with the absorption of the active ingredient.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant , ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
It is preferable to avoid the use of Ciprofloxacin Actavis pregnancies . Tell your doctor if you plan to become pregnant.
Do not take Ciprofloxacin Actavis during breast-feeding because ciprofloxacin is excreted in breast milk and may harm your baby.
Driving and using machines

3 . How to take Ciprofloxacin Actavis ?
Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will tell you how much Ciprofloxacin Actavis should take and how often and for how long. This depends on the type of infection and the weight her dosage may vary between 1 tablet in 24 hours to 3 tablets every 12 hours.
Tell your doctor if you have impaired kidney function to allow it to adjust the dose.
The usual duration of treatment is 5 to 21 days. In severe infections, treatment may be prolonged . Swallow the tablets with a lot of liquid. Do not chew them because their taste is unpleasant . If you forget to take Ciprofloxacin Actavis
Take your normal dose as soon as possible and then continue on the prescribed schedule . However, if it is almost time happened next dose , skip the missed dose and continue with the scheme. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Finish the full course of treatment.
If you stop taking Ciprofloxacin Actavis

loss of appetite ( anorexia ) ;
hyperactivity or agitation ;
headache , dizziness, sleep problems or disorders of taste sensations ;
vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion or flatulence ;
increased levels of certain substances in the blood ( transaminase and / or bilirubin) ;
rash, itching or hives;
joint pain in adults ;
impaired renal function;
vague pains in muscles and bones , malaise (tiredness ) or fever ;
increased alkaline phosphatase activity in the blood ( a substance in the blood) .
Rare side effects (likely to occur between 1 and 10 in every 10,000 patients):
inflammation of the colon (colitis ) associated with the use of antibiotics ( in very rare cases can be fatal ) (see Section 2: Take special care with Ciprofloxacin Actavis ) ;
changes in blood count ( leukopenia , leukocytosis , neutropenia, anemia) , increased or decreased number of platelets ( responsible for blood clotting) ;
allergic reactions, swelling (edema ) or rapid swelling of the skin and mucosa ( angioedema) ;
high blood sugar ( hyperglycemia ) ;

dilation of blood vessels ( vasodilation ) , low blood pressure, or seizures ;
shortness of breath, including asthma symptoms ;
liver disorders , jaundice or hepatitis ;
sensitivity to light (see Section 2: Take special care with Ciprofloxacin Actavis ) ;
muscle pain , joint inflammation , relax muscles or cramps ;
renal failure, blood or crystals in the urine ( see Section 2: Take special care with Ciprofloxacin Actavis ), inflammation of the urinary tract ;
fluid retention or excessive potlivost ;
deviations in the values of one of the clotting factors ( prothrombin ) or elevated amylase enzyme .
Very rare side effects (likely to get less than 1 in 10,000 patients):

small punctate hemorrhages under the skin ( petechiae ), various skin rashes (eg potentially fatal Stevens -Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis) ;
muscle weakness , inflammation of the tendons, tendon rupture - especially the large tendon in the back of the ankle ( Achilles tendon ) (see Section 2: Take special care with Ciprofloxacin Actavis ), worsening of symptoms of myasthenia gravis (see section 2: Take special care with Ciprofloxacin Actavis ) .
Not known ( data can not be estimated ):
problems related to the nervous system such as pain , burning, tingling , numbness and / or weakness in the limbs ;
excessively rapid heartbeat , life-threatening irregular heartbeat , change in heartbeat (called QT prolongation, which has been considering the electrical activity of the heart on the electrocardiogram ) .

5 . How to store Ciprofloxacin Actavis tablets ?
At temperatures below 25 ° C.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Ciprofloxacin Actavis after the expiry date stated on the blister and carton after 'EXP' . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
