WHAT CAVINTON infusion AND WHAT IT IS USED
Cavinton infusion is medicine to treat the symptoms of some diseases associated with disorders of cerebral circulation. Cavinton infusion is also used to reduce the psychological or neurological symptoms associated with disorders of cerebral circulation, for the treatment of certain ophthalmic and otological diseases resulting from vascular disorders, or to reduce the symptoms associated therewith.
2 BEFORE USING CAVINTON
What you should know before using this medicine?
In case of increased intracranial pressure, cardiac arrhythmias or syndrome extended QT-interval is allowed to take Cavinton infusion only after thorough individual medical decision.
In Cavinton iifuzionen solution can be found to a small amount of sorbitol (160 mg / 2 ml), which may slightly influence the daily dietary regimen for patients with diabetes. Therefore, if you have diabetes, ask your doctor for advice.
Tell your doctor if you have fructose intolerance (intolerance to fruit sugar) or deficiency of an enzyme (fructose 1,6-difosfataza), since in these cases the medicinal product should be avoided.
When should you not use Cavinton infusion?
The drug should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to vinpocetine or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product;
During pregnancy and lactation;
In case of acute severe hemorrhagic stroke and ischemic heart disease, severe cardiac arrhythmias;
Its use is contraindicated in children (due to lack of data from relevant clinical trials).
Is it allowed for the application of Cavinton infusion during pregnancy and lactation?
Cavinton infusion should not be used during pregnancy.
Vinpocetine, the active substance of Cavinton infusion is excreted in human milk, so Cavinton should not be used during breastfeeding.
Have an impact Cavinton infusion on ability to drive and use machines?
During treatment with Cavinton you are allowed to drive unless your doctor recommends otherwise. No evidence of any effect of vinpocetine on ability to drive and use machines.
Can you take other medicines during treatment with Cavinton?
Other medicines may influence the effect of Cavinton because you should inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Take special care with Cavinton infusion in case of concomitant heparin. Injection is chemically incompatible with heparin, therefore, they can not be mixed in the same syringe, but it is possible concomitant anticoagulant therapy.
You should tell your doctor if you are taking a medicine containing alpha-methyl-dopa, drugs affecting the central nervous system, anti-arrhythmic agents or anticoagulants (drugs which prevent the formation of blood clots).
3 HOW TO USE CAVINTON infusion
How will be administered Cavinton infusion?
Cavinton infusion will be diluted and then injected slowly into a vein by intravenous infusion. Infusion means you will be given a half-liter of fluid and will last about an hour, hour and a half. The injection should not be given for undiluted (ie you be injected directly the contents of the ampoule) or as an intramuscular injection. The initial dose is usually 20 mg (2 vials). This dose can be increased to 1 mg / kg body weight daily for 2-3 days, depending on patient tolerability. The average duration of the treatment period is 10-14 days, the usual daily dose is 50 mg / day (5 vials in 500 ml infusion) relative to the body weight of 70 kg. There is no need for dosage adjustment in patients with kidney and liver disease.
Administration of 1 mg / kg body weight can be considered safe. Accidental overdose can occur cardiac side effects. In this case Cavinton treatment should be stopped and you will be closely monitored for signs of heart disorders, will be given appropriate symptomatic and supportive care. Also will be carefully monitored your vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure). There is no known antidote to Cavinton infusion. Please tell your doctor if you suspect an overdose.
4 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines. Cavinton infusion can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Blood and lymphatic system disorders:

Rare: headache, dizziness, hemiparesis, somnolence;
very rare: tremor, loss of consciousness, hypotension, presyncope.

very rare: conjunctival hyperemia, edema of the papilla, diplopia.
Ear and labyrinth disorders:
rare: impaired hearing, hyperacusis, hypoacusis, vertigo;
very rare: TINNITUS.
rare: Myocardial ischemia / infarction, angina pectoris, bradycardia, tachycardia, extrasystoles, palpitations;
very rare: cardiac failure, atrial fibrillation.
rare: hypotension, hypertension, flushing;
very rare: changes in blood pressure, venous insufficiency.
rare: abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, nausea;
very rare: salivation, vomiting.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders:
rare: erythema, HYPERHIDROSIS, urticaria;
very rare: dermatitis, pruritus.
General disorders and administration site conditions:
Uncommon: feeling hot;
rare: asthenia, chest discomfort, phlebitis / thrombosis at the site of injection.
Uncommon: lower blood pressure;
rare: increase in blood pressure, ECG: an extension of the QT-interval depression ST- segment increased blood urea;
very rare: increase in serum LDH, extending the ECG PR, abnormal electrocardiogram.

6 FURTHER INFORMATION
The active substance is vinpocetine (10 mg of vinpocetine in each ampoule).
Excipients include ascorbic acid, sodium metabisulfite, tartaric acid, sorbitol, benzyl alcohol, water for injections.
