What is mupirocin ointment and what it is used
Bactroban is a topical antibiotic for skin application . It is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin .
2 . What you should know before you apply mupirocin ointment
Do not apply mupirocin ointment :
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to mupirocin or polyethylene glycol . If you think you have signs of allergy (eg rash ) to another ointment that contains polyethylene glycol should let your doctor before you start applying Bactroban .
If you are unsure , ask your doctor.
Warnings and Precautions
If during treatment with mupirocin ointment notice skin rash , pain at the injection site or swelling, stop taking the medicine and tell your doctor.
Do not apply mupirocin ointment to treat infections of the eyes or nose. If accidental drug gets in your eyes , you should rinse them thoroughly with water. If the application of the ointment cause any discomfort, stop using it and consult a doctor.
Do not continue use of the drug for a period longer than that prescribed by the physician.
Do not mix with other Bactroban ointments or creams. This may affect its operation.
Other medicines and Bactroban Nasal
Be sure to tell your doctor about all other medicines you are currently taking , even ones you bought yourself without a prescription.
Pregnancy, lactation and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant , ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. In the event that you are pregnant should not use this medicine unless your doctor tells you otherwise advised .
Tell the doctor if you are breastfeeding. If you apply mupirocin ointment in the area around the nipple , it should be washed thoroughly before feeding .
Driving and using machines
The drug did not affect the ability to drive and use machines .
3 . How to use Bactroban
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area of the skin two to three times a day for a period not exceeding 10 days. The treated area may be covered with a dressing.
Always wash your hands before and after administration of the drug.
Apply Bactroban as long as your doctor recommends . Consult a doctor if you think that improvement has not occurred after 7 days of treatment with mupirocin ointment.
If you use more than the amount of Bactroban
Unlikely to experience any problems with an overdose . If your medicine causes discomfort, wash the area of administration with plenty of water and tell your doctor.
If you forget to use Bactroban
If you forget to take the medicine , do it as soon as you remember. Then proceed as before.
4 . Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them .
Adverse reactions during treatment with mupirocin ointment are usually mild .
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 patients):
burning sensation on the skin at the injection site .
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 patients):
itching, redness, tingling , and dryness of the skin at the injection site ;
skin hypersensitivity ( allergic dermatitis, bullous dermatitis, contact dermatitis , eczema, rash on the mucous membranes , itching, generalized rash , macular rash, scarlatiniform rash , vesicular rash , skin rashes, skin irritation ) .
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 patients):
systemic allergic reactions , including . anaphylactic reactions , facial swelling and / or difficulty breathing , swelling around the eyes , generalized urticaria (hives) .
Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a skin rash or itching.
If you get any side effects, tell your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
5 . How to store Bactroban
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use Bactroban after the expiry date stated on the pack . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25 ° C.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.

What does Bactroban
The active substance is mupirocin in a concentration of 2 % w / w.
Other ingredients are: polyethylene glycol 400 and polyethylene glycol 3350 .

Mupirocin is in the form of white ointment. Available in tubes containing 10 g, 15 g or 30 g of ointment.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
