WHAT Arabia AND WHAT IT IS USED?
Of the tablets:
Arava 100 mg filimirani tablets are white to off-white, round eye with a diameter of 1 cm. Intaglio en one side: ZBP
Arava substances belong to the group of antirheumatic drugs.
Arava is intended for the treatment of adult patients with active rheumatoid arthritis or active psoriatic arthritis.

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include inflammation of joints, swelling, difficulty moving and pain. Other symptoms that affect the entire body include loss of appetite, fever, loss of energy and anemia.
Symptoms of active psoriatic arthritis include inflammation of joints, swelling, difficulty moving, pain and skin changes.
Arava stops the activation and proliferation of cells responsible for the inflammation.


BEFORE YOU TAKE Arabia
Do not take Arava:
- If you have had an allergic reaction to leflunomide or to any other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you have impaired liver function or severe hypoproteinaemia. In these cases, you will get more side effects
- If you suffer from a disease which lowers your immune defenses, as in some diseases / eg AIDS / this weight loss can be further strengthened.
- If your bone marrow is not working properly or the number of red or white blood cells in your blood or platelet count was significantly reduced
- If you have a serious infection
- If you have moderate or severe kidney dysfunction. This is because there is not enough experience in such patients
- If you are breast-feeding.

Take special care of Arava
Before starting and regularly during treatment with Arava, your doctor will take blood tests to monitor blood counts and liver function. Similarly, it is necessary to regularly monitor your blood pressure as Arava can cause an increase.

In some circumstances, your doctor will decide that you need to take some medicines which speed up removal of Arava from your body.
Tell your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms such as unusual tiredness, abdominal pain or jaundice. These symptoms may indicate the development of liver damage, which requires special measures by your doctor.
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any signs of infection. This is because some infections can occur more severe and therefore should be treated early and vigorous in taking medicines as Arava, reduce the immune response.

Tell your doctor immediately if you develop symptoms such as persistent cough, or trouble breathing heavily. Such signs may indicate the development of a potentially serious lung disease that requires further action by your doctor.

tell your doctor if you have had tuberculosis. If you have ever had TB, your doctor will monitor you closely in order to be able to treat you without delay if it becomes active again.

Tell your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms such as paleness, fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections or injuries. Such signs may indicate the presence of disease of blood cells, which may require discontinuation of Arava and other medicines and action by your doctor.

Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a rash on the skin or mucous membranes. This requires discontinuation of Ariva and immediate action by your doctor.
Male patients should be cautioned about the potential risk of birth defects and should not take Arava without taking reliable contraception. To reduce this risk, men wishing to father a child should contact their doctor. He / she may advise you to stop taking Arava and take certain medicines to speed up the release of Arava from the body. This should be confirmed by a laboratory test that Arava has been sufficiently eliminated and then you need to wait at least another three months.

ADMISSION OF Arabia with food and drink
It is not recommended to drink alcohol during treatment with Arava. This can cause damage to your liver more than one can usually expect.

PREGNANCY
Make sure you are not pregnant before starting treatment with Arava because Arava can harm your baby. You are strictly advised to avoid becoming pregnant while receiving treatment with Arava.
Women should not take Arava without using reliable measures to prevent pregnancy when childbearing age. If you intend to become pregnant after stopping treatment with Arava is important to inform your doctor before. After stopping Arava you need to wait two years. This may be reduced to a few weeks by taking certain medicines which speed up removal of Arava from your body. In all cases, this must be confirmed by laboratory tests that Ariva has been sufficiently eliminated from your body and you have to wait at least another month before you become pregnant.

BREASTFEEDING
Do not take Arava during lactation.

DRIVE AND USE MACHINES

Important information about some of the ingredients of Arabia
Arava contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.


HOW TO TAKE Arabia?
If you are under 18 years of age is not recommended to be treated with Arava. This is due to lack of experience of its use in children and adolescents.
Your doctor will tell you how many tablets Arava will have to take, at what time and for how long.
The usual starting dose of Arava is one 100 mg tablet once daily for the first three days. Then, from the 4th day onwards, most patients need a dose of
- 10 or 20 mg Arava per day for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, depending on the severity of the disease.
- 20 mg Arava per day for the treatment of active psoriatic arthritis.
Arava can be taken during meals or at any time between meals. Swallow the tablet whole with sufficient fluid.
It may take at least 4 weeks of initiation of therapy to feel an improvement in your condition. Some patients may even get a great improvement after 4 to 6 months of treatment.
You will normally take Arava for a long time.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:
common:
- A reduction in the number of white blood cells
- Mild allergic reactions
- Loss of appetite, weight loss
- Headache, dizziness, abnormal skin sensations like tingling
- Mild increase in blood pressure
- Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, oral mucosal disorders, abdominal pain
- Blood tests may show an increase in some liver results
- Increased hair loss, eczema, dry skin, rash, pruritus
- Inflammation of the tendons
- weakness

Uncommon:
- Reduction in the number of red blood cells and a decrease in the number of blood platelets
- A decrease in the level of potassium in the blood
- anxiety
- Taste disturbances
- urticaria
- Ann tendon rupture

rare:
- An increase in the number of so-called eosinophilic cells, a marked decrease in the number of white blood cells, and a marked decrease in the number of all blood cells. Symptoms such as paleness, fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections or bruising may point to the existence of such blood cells. When these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately
- Severe increase in blood pressure
- Inflammation of the lung. If you get a cough or breathing problems, tell your doctor immediately.
- Blood test may show an increase in some liver results which may lead to serious conditions such as hepatitis, jaundice.
- Severe infections, including sepsis, which can be life threatening.

Very rare:
- A marked decrease of some white blood cells
- Severe and potentially serious allergic reactions
- Inflammation of small blood vessels
- Problems with the nerves of the arms or legs
- Inflammation of the pancreas
- Blood test may show an increase in some liver results which may lead to serious conditions such as liver failure which can be fatal.
- Rash or mucous membrane lesions may indicate the development of serious, sometimes life-threatening ulceration of the skin and mucous membrane blistering.
