The name of the drug is Avandamet (Avandamet). It is in the form of tablets. Each tablet contains 2 mg rosiglitazone (rosiglitazone) - in the form of maleate and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride (metformin hydrochloride) as active substances.

The name of the drug is Avandamet ( Avandamet ) . It is in the form of tablets. Each tablet contains 2 mg rosiglitazone ( rosiglitazone ) - in the form of maleate and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride ( metformin hydrochloride) as active substances.
The tablets also contain the following inactive ingredients :
 
Core:
sodium starch glycolate, (E464 ) , microcrystalline cellulose ( E460 ) , lactose monohydrate, povidone ( E1201 ), and magnesium stearate.
 
Film coating :
hypromellose, titanium dioxide ( E171), macrogol and red iron oxide ( E172) .
 
 
 
1. WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED AVANDAMET
 
AVANDAMET is in the form of a pale pink film coated tablets . On them is marked "gsk" on one side and " 2/500 " on the other .
The tablets are packaged in blister packs containing 28, 56 or 112 tablets.
AVANDAMET is antihyperglycemic drug that is taken orally , is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type II ( non-insulin dependent ) . Type II diabetes mellitus is a condition in which your body does not produce enough insulin or the amount of insulin produced does not work as it should .
Insulin is a natural substance produced by the body that control your blood sugar. Help the body better use the insulin they produce , AVANDAMET helps to reduce your blood sugar to normal levels.
In overweight patients continued use of metformin ( one of the active substances of AVANDAMET) helps reduce the risk of complications associated with diabeta.AVANDAMET should be administered alone or in combination with a sulphonylurea , which are also anti-diabetic medicines taken orally ( triple oral therapy).
 
 
2 . BEFORE YOU TAKE AVANDAMET.
Do not take AVANDAMET:
If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to rosiglitazone; metformin hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of AVANDAMET
If you have or had heart failure
If you have recently suffered a heart attack or have severe circulatory problems or difficulty breathing
If you have liver disease
If you take excessive amounts of alcohol ( daily or occasional )
If you have diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes with rapid weight loss, nausea or vomiting)
If you have kidney problems
If you have a severe infection or are dehydrated
If you are breastfeeding
If you are in X-ray with injection of contrast ( dye ) . You should stop taking AVANDAMET during and for several days after the procedure
If you already take insulin.
 
 
Pay special attention to taking AVANDAMET:
Before taking this medication, tell your doctor :
- If you are taking any other medicines to treat diabetes ,
- if you have any of these symptoms : feeling of fever or discomfort , severe nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss or rapid breathing . Very rarely patients taking metformin, were in a condition called lactic acidosis ( excess of lactic acid in the blood ), mainly in patients who have kidney problems. If you have any of these symptoms , stop taking AVANDAMET and consult your doctor immediately .
- If you are planning to become pregnant.
- If you have polycystic ovary syndrome . Because of their action , the drug may increase the likelihood of becoming pregnant .
- If you have an operation under general anesthesia , you may need to stop taking AVANDAMET a few days before and after the procedure.
- If you are taking a sulphonylurea with AVANDAMET, as your blood sugar level may fall (hypoglycaemia). The doctor may reduce the dose of the sulphonylurea you .
- If you are under the age of 18 years . No information on the application of AVANDAMET litsapod at age 18. Accordingly, the use of the drug in these patients is not recommended.
 
 
Adoption of AVANDAMET food and beverages :
It is recommended to take the tablets during or just after a meal to reduce the chance of stomach problems .
 
 
pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be or are trying to become pregnant. Your doctor will advise you to stop taking this medicine.
 
 
breastfeeding
You should not take AVANDAMET, if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed your baby.
 
Driving and using machines:
This medicine will not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
 
 
Important information about some of the ingredients of AVANDAMET:
Patients who are intolerant to lactose should note that each tablet AVANDAMET contains a small amount of lactose. Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose -galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
 
Taking other medicines:
Tell your doctor if you are already taking glucocorticoids , beta -2- agonists , diuretics , ACE inhibitors or other drugs used to treat problems such as how your body uses glucose , heart problems , kidney problems or blood pressure . Inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines , even those not prescribed . Your doctor may change the dose of AVANDAMET if you are taking other medicines ( eg gemfibrozil, rifampicin or cimetidine).
 
 
3 . HOW TO TAKE AVANDAMET
Follow the advice of a doctor about how and when to take the tablets AVANDAMET. If you are unsure , you should consult your doctor.
Adoption AVANDAMET dose depends on your condition .
The usual initial dose is two tablets of 1 mg/500 mg twice daily.
If necessary , your doctor may increase the dose . The maximum dose is 8 mg rosiglitazone and 2000 mg metformin hydrochloride daily. This dosage , your doctor will prescribe other tablets containing 2 mg/500 mg.
If you feel that the medicine is too weak or too strong or change the dose yourself. Check with your doctor. Do not take more tablets than those prescribed by your doctor .
You should take the tablets with a glass of water. You should take two of these tablets in the morning and evening two of them during or just after a meal to reduce the chance of stomach problems . It is best to take the tablets at the same time each den.Vashiyat doctor may appoint a blood test to check that your liver is working properly. At least once a year (more often if you are elderly or have kidney problems) your doctor will appoint a study to see if your kidneys are working normally.
The doctor will order regular tests to determine your blood sugar and urine sugar .
You should continue to follow the diet suggested by your doctor and make sure that you take carbs regularly throughout the day. If you are on a diet for weight control diabetes , you should continue to follow while taking AVANDAMET.
Your weight should be checked at regular intervals; if you increase your weight , tell your doctor.
 
If you take more AVANDAMET, than prescribed by your doctor :
If you take more tablets AVANDAMET, than prescribed , or if someone else swallow your medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately . Show them the pack of medicine.
 
If you forget to take AVANDAMET:
Take the tablets with your next meal . In the next meal or a double dose of medicine to make up the missed dose.
 
 
4 . Possible side effects .
Like all medicines , AVANDAMET can cause side effects .
Some patients have experienced the following side effects dokatosa taking rosiglitazone and / or metformin ( the two active ingredients of AVANDAMET) or when taking AVANDAMET in combination with a sulphonylurea ( triple oral therapy ):
Very common side effects (likely to affect 1 in 10 patients or more) abdominal pain lower than normal levels of blood sugar ( hypoglycemia) localized swelling (edema) .
Common side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 10 patients) changes in the number of blood cells ( including anemia ) flatulence (flatulence ), nausea , gastritis, vomiting , diarrhea, weight gain
- Metallic taste
- Increased levels of blood fats
- Heart failure and pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs) . The main feature is the breathing difficulties .
Uncommon side effects ( may affect up to 1 in every 100 patients) higher blood sugar levels than normal (worsening of diabetes ) loss of appetite ( anorexia) constipation, indigestion, headache, dizziness, muscle pain, muscle weakness caused by the loads.
Rare side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 1000 patients) violations of liver function .
Very rare side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 10,000 patients), rash or allergic swelling (angioedema ), sometimes of the face or mouth , which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing .
- Redness of the skin
- Reducing the levels of vitamin B12.
 
Rosiglitazone may slightly increase the level of total cholesterol . If you are worried about your cholesterol level , you should consult your doctor.
In less than 1 in 10 000 patients , rapid and excessive weight gain , as a result of fluid retention after reception of rosiglitazone. If this happens to you , tell your doctor as soon as possible.
In less than 1 in 10,000 patients taking metformin, there was a condition called lactic acidosis ( excess of lactic acid in the blood) , especially in patients who have kidney problems. Symptoms include : feeling of fever or discomfort , severe nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss or rapid breathing . If you have any of these symptoms , stop taking AVANDAMET and immediately consult your lekar.Ako observe any unusual discomfort , let your doctor as soon as possible .

5 . Storage AVANDAMET
Keep out of reach of children.
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
