What Avamys is and what it is used

Avamys, nasal spray used to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis including stuffy, runny or itchy nose, sneezing and watery, itchy or red eyes in adults and children 6 years and older. Allergic symptoms can appear at certain times of the year and are caused by allergy to pollens of grasses and trees (hayfever), or they can occur throughout the year and are caused by an allergy to animals, dust mites or mold . Avamys belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. Avamys works by reducing inflammation caused by allergy (rhinitis).
 

  Before you use Avamys

 
Do not use Avamys:
 
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to fluticasone furoate or any of the other ingredients of Avamys.
 
Take special care with Avamys
 
If you have liver problems, tell your doctor or pharmacist. Your doctor may adjust your dose Avamys. Applying for an extended period of nasal glucocorticoids (such as Avamys) may cause growth retardation in children. Doctor will measure your child's height and make sure that he or she is taking the lowest possible effective dose. Taking other medicines Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. It is particularly important to tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken, any of the following medications:
  steroid tablets or injectable steroids
  steroid creams
  asthm
 ritonavir used to treat HIV
  ketoconazole, used to treat fungal infections
Your doctor will decide whether you should take Avamys with these drugs.
 

Pregnancy and lactation

 
Do not use Avamys, if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, unless your doctor tells you to use it. Do not use Avamys, breast-feeding, unless your doctor tells you to use it.
 

Driving and operating machinery

 
Avamys is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
 
 
Important information about some of the ingredients of Avamys
 
Avamys contains benzalkonium chloride. In some patients this can cause irritation inside the nose. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you feel discomfort when using the spray.

How to use Avamys

 
Always Avamys exactly as your doctor tells you. If you are not sure,
with your doctor.
 

When to use it and how

 
Avamys is sprayed into the nose as a fine mist. It has virtually no taste.
 
Avamys is not intended for use in the eyes.
 
 

When to use Avamys

 
 Use once a day
  Apply at the same time each day. This will treat your symptoms throughout the day and night.
 
How long does it take to start working Avamys
 
Some people will not feel the full effects until several days after the first application of Avamys. However, usually effective within 8 to 24 hours after use.
 
Adults and children 12 years and over
  The usual starting dose is two sprays in each nostril once daily.
  After achieving symptom control may be possible to reduce the dose to 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
 
Children under 12 years
  For children aged 6 to 11 years starting dose is 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
  If symptoms are severe, your doctor may increase the dose to 2 sprays in each nostril once a day until symptoms are controlled. Then it may be possible to reduce the dose to 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
  Do not use in children under 6 years.
 
If you use more Avamys than
 
Ask your doctor or pharmacist. If you forget to use Avamys
 
 If you miss a dose, take it when you remember.
  If it is almost time to apply your next dose, wait until then. Do not take a double dose to make up.
 
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
 
How to test nasal spray before use nasal spray
 
 The medicine comes in a glass bottle inside a plastic casing.
  The glass bottle contains 30.60 or 120 puffs.

  The drug is sprayed from the nozzle when the button is pressed hard.
  The nozzle is protected by a removable cap.
 
You should try nasal spray that works properly when using it for the first time. If you left the cap off or are not using it for a month, follow steps 1-4 below.
 Shake the nasal spray with the cap.
  Remove the cap by gently squeezing the sides with your thumb and forefinger and pull it straight out.
  Hold the nasal spray upright, point the nozzle away from you and firmly press the button at least six times to get a fine spray into the air
 
 The nasal spray is now ready for use. If you drop a spray, check for damage and test it again (steps 1-4 above). If the spray is damaged, if it produces anything other than a fine mist (such as a jet of liquid), or if you feel discomfort when using the spray:
 
Return it to your pharmacist. Use your nasal spray
 
Blow your nose to clear your nostrils. Shake the spray gently before each use.
  Tilt your head forward slightly.
  Hold the nasal spray upright and carefully place the nozzle in one nostril
  Aim the nozzle tip to the outside of the nose off the central barrier. This helps the medicine to the right place in the nose.
  As you breathe in through your nose firmly press the button once to spray the medicine into your nose
Do not spray into eyes.
 
If this occurs, rinse eyes with water.
  Remove the tip of the nose and exhale through your mouth.
 Repeat steps 1 through 5 for the other nostril. © If your doctor has told you to jetting

  After each use, wipe the nozzle and the inside of the cap.
  
For this purpose, do not use water, wipe with a clean, dry cloth.
 
If the spray is blocked, do not try to unblock the nozzle with a needle or sharp object, as this will damage the spray mechanism:
 Return it to your pharmacist.
  Always replace the cap after you finish to protect from dust.
 
If you use more Avamys than
 
Ask your doctor or pharmacist. If you forget to use Avamys
  If you miss a dose, take it when you remember.
  If it is almost time to apply your next dose, wait until then. Do not take a double dose.
 
Possible side effects
 
Like all medicines, Avamys can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
 
 
Possible side effects are listed below;
 
Very common side effects (these may affect more than 1 in 10 people)
  Bleeding from the nose (usually minor), particularly if you use Avamys for more than 6 weeks continuously.
 
 
Common side effects
 
(These may affect less than 1 in 10 people and more than 1 in 100 people)
  Irritation or discomfort inside the nose
  May also have streaks of blood when you blow your nose. This may be due to ulceration of the nose.
 
 
If you get side effects
 
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any
in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
 

 How to store Avamys

 
Keep out of reach of children. Avamys not use after the expiry date stated on the label and carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Avamys, nasal spray should be used within two months after first opening.
Do not refrigerate or freeze. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Avamys
 
The active substance is fluticasone furoate. Each spray delivers 27.5 micrograms of fluticasone furoate.
 
The other ingredients are glucose, cellulose, dispersible, polysorbate 80, benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, purified water.
