ATORVASTATIN Genericon WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED
Genericon Atorvastatin belongs to a group of medicines called statins that regulate lipids (fats ) .
Genericon Atorvastatin is used to lower lipid levels - cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, when lipid-lowering diet and change in lifestyle are not enough. If you have a high risk of developing heart disease , Genericon Atorvastatin is used as a medicament lowering the risk , even in cases where the levels of cholesterol are normal. The standard diet aimed at lowering cholesterol is to be continued during the treatment.
Atorvastatin Genericon is also intended as a supplement to other treatments (eg LDL- apheresis : a procedure that reduces the levels of lipids in the blood) or in case of unsatisfactory outcome of treatment undertaken .
Cholesterol is a natural substance in the blood necessary for normal growth . However, if you have too much cholesterol in the body, it is deposited on the walls of the blood vessels can eventually clog them . This is one of the most common causes of heart disease. Other factors that increase the risk of developing heart disease are high blood pressure , diabetes , increased body weight, decreased physical activity , smoking, or family history of heart disease.
2 . BEFORE YOU TAKE ATORVASTATIN Genericon
Do not take Atorvastatin Genericon :
if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any of the other ingredients of the product. An allergic reaction may include rash , itching, swelling of the face , lips and throat and difficulty breathing ;
if you have severe liver problems or have had them ;
if you have any changes in the results of liver function tests ;
if you are of childbearing age and use adequate contraception ;
if you are pregnant , planning a pregnancy or breast-feeding ;
if you have a muscle disease called myopathy ( repeated or unexplained muscle pain ) .
Take special care with Atorvastatin Genericon
If you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (with or without the presence of pink colored urine ) , accompanied by fever and general discomfort or uneasiness , please inform your doctor. These are symptoms of a rare muscle disorder (rhabdomyolysis ) which can sometimes be serious and lead to kidney problems .
Atorvastatin Genericon may not be suitable for you if you are a patient with predisposing factors for rhabdomyolysis :
have kidney damage ;
have an underactive thyroid ( hypothyroidism ) ;
have repeated or unexplained muscle pain, personal or family history of muscle problems ;
you had prior muscle problems during treatment with other lipid-lowering drugs (eg statins or fibrates other ) ;
regularly taking large amounts of alcohol ;
have a history of liver disease ;
are over 70 years old and have other factors predisposing to rhabdomyolysis.
If any of these apply to you, your doctor should do blood tests before and possibly during treatment with Atorvastatin Genericon , to control the risk of side effects affecting the muscles.
Taking other medicines
Some medicines may interact with Atorvastatin Genericon . The risk of muscle damage can be larger , if you take any of the following drugs. Where necessary , co-administration of these drugs Atorvastatin Genericon , your doctor will assess the benefit / risk when you prescribe them .
It is important to tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following :
products that affect the immune system , e. cyclosporin;
antibiotics or antifungals such as erythromycin , clarithromycin, rifampicin, ketoconazole , itraconazole ;
other drugs that regulate lipid levels , eg . gemfibrozil, other fibrates etsetimib , niacin , nicotinic acid , colestipol ;
certain calcium channel blockers , which are useful in the treatment of angina pectoris or high blood pressure , for example . nifedipine, amlodipine ;
products , controlling the heart rate , for example . digoxin ;
products used in the treatment of cardiac diseases ( amiodarone, diltiazem, verapamil) ;
Some benzodiazepines , e. nafazodon used in states of anxiety or similar conditions;
herb used for medicinal purposes , including treatment of depression ( Hypericum perforatum) ;
Protease inhibitors used in the treatment of HIV , for example . efavirenz , nelfinavir ;
other products that interact with Atorvastatin Genericon such as warfarin ( decreasing blood clotting) . Oral contraceptives, phenytoin ( anticonvulsant epilepsy ) and antacid (products which are used for stomach ailments , and contain aluminum and magnesium) .
Please tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines , including medicines obtained without a prescription , herbal or natural products.
Atorvastatin Genericon with food and drink
Genericon Atorvastatin can be taken at any time of the day with or without food. Concomitant intake of large quantities of grapefruit juice (over 1,2 l per day ) may increase the effect of atorvastatin Genericon . You should avoid taking large amounts of grapefruit juice while taking Atorvastatin Genericon . Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol while taking this product.
Pregnancy and lactation
Do not take Atorvastatin Genericon if you are pregnant , think you may be pregnant or planning a pregnancy . If you are a woman of childbearing age , you should take appropriate contraceptive during treatment with atorvastatin Genericon .
Do not take Atorvastatin Genericon if you are breastfeeding .
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Driving and using machines
Atorvastatin Genericon negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Atorvastatin Genericon
Atorvastatin Genericon comprises mannitol and may have pronounced laxative.
3 . HOW TO TAKE ATORVASTATIN Genericon
Always take Atorvastatin Genericon exactly as your doctor tells you . Please consult your doctor if you are unsure.
Before starting treatment with Atorvastatin Genericon , your doctor will prescribe you lipid-lowering diet, which should be used during treatment with the drug.
Adults and elderly
The usual starting dose taken once is 10 mg. Where necessary, it can be increased . Your doctor will adjust the dose at intervals of 4 weeks or more . The maximum daily dose of atorvastatin Genericon is 80 mg.
Impaired renal function
No adjustment of dosage. Follow your doctor's instructions .
Impaired liver function
Genericon Atorvastatin should be used with caution in patients with impaired hepatic function. Your doctor will order tests of liver function before initiation of treatment with atorvastatin Genericon , and periodically thereafter.
Genericon atorvastatin tablets should be swallowed whole with water or drink and can be taken at any time of day with or without food. The daily dose should be taken at once. The duration of treatment with atorvastatin Genericon determined by your doctor.
If you take more than the dose of atorvastatin Genericon
If you take more than the dose of atorvastatin Genericon , please tell your doctor, pharmacist or go to the nearest hospital for emergency care.
If you forget to take Atorvastatin Genericon
If you forget to take a dose , take it as soon as possible thereafter, unless it is time for the next . Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking Atorvastatin Genericon
Do not change or stop taking Atorvastatin Genericon before checking with your doctor.

4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, Genericon Atorvastatin may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common adverse reactions from the gastrointestinal tract such as constipation , swell , indigestion and stomach pain normally disappears during therapy .
Adverse reactions are classified according to frequency of occurrence as very common (> 1/10 ), common (> 1/100 to <1 /10) , uncommon (> 1/1 , 000 to < 1/100 ), rare (1/10 , 000 to < 1/1 , 000), very rare (<1 /10, 000 ), not known ( data can not be estimated ) .
Adverse reactions :
Common: constipation , flatulence, indigestion , nausea, diarrhea , hypersensitivity, insomnia , headache , dizziness, skin problems such as irritation , itching or burning without apparent physical cause ( paraesthesia, reduced sense of touch) , rash , muscle aches (myalgia ) joint pain ( arthralgia) , fatigue, chest pain , back pain and peripheral edema .
Uncommon: anorexia , vomiting , decreased ability of the blood to clot ( thrombocytopenia), hair loss, hair loss ( alopecia ) , increased or decreased blood sugar , inflammation of the pancreas ( pancreatitis) , a disorder of the nervous system (peripheral neuropathy) , rough skin rashes , memory loss ( amnesia ) , ringing or noise in the ears ( tinnitus) , myopathy , muscle cramps , malaise, weight gain, impotence.
Rare: inflammation of the liver ( hepatitis), cholestatic jaundice, multisystem disease , which is chronic inflammation involving skeletal muscle and skin , muscle cramps or weakness due to general discomfort and fever ( rhabdomyolysis).
Very common: change in taste , visual disturbances, hearing loss, transient edema, which can affect the face, neck , arms and legs ( angioedema ), rash with vesicles (including POLYFORM erythema , Stevens -Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis) , tendon rupture , severe allergic reactions ( anaphylaxis) , liver failure , enlargement of breasts in men ( gynecomastia ) .
Effects on laboratory tests :
change in the results of liver function tests (increased serum transaminases ) ;
variation in assessment of renal function ( elevated serum creatine phosphokinase ) .

5 . HOW TO STORE ATORVASTATIN Genericon
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not store above 25 ° C.
Do not use Atorvastatin Genericon after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.

What does Atorvastatin Genericon
The active substance is atorvastatin in the form of atorvastatin calcium .
Each tablet Genericon Atorvastatin 10 mg contains 10 mg of atorvastatin in the form of atorvastatin calcium 10,36 mg.
Each tablet Genericon Atorvastatin 20 mg contains 20 mg of atorvastatin in the form of atorvastatin calcium 20,72 mg.
Each tablet Genericon Atorvastatin 40 mg contains 40 mg of atorvastatin in the form of atorvastatin calcium 41,44 mg.
Each tablet Genericon Atorvastatin 80 mg contains 80 mg of atorvastatin in the form of atorvastatin calcium 82,88 mg.
Other ingredients are:
mannitol , microcrystalline cellulose , calcium carbonate , povidone , croscarmellose sodium, sodium lauryl sulfate , silica , colloidal anhydrous , magnesium stearate, opadry white , talc .
