ATAKAND WHAT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED
Atakand used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.
The active ingredient is candesartan cilexetil (candesartan cilexetil). Candesartan cilexetil belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It causes relaxation and dilation of blood vessels. It lowers blood pressure. It also helps to pump blood from the heart to all parts of your body.
BEFORE YOU TAKE ATAKAND
Do not take Atakand:
if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to candesartan Cile any of the other ingredients of Atakand
if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding
if you have severe liver disease or biliary obstruction (problems with drainage of bile from the gall bladder)
If you are not sure if any of these conditions apply to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Atakand.
Take special care with Atakand
Before taking or while taking Atakand, tell your doctor:
if you have heart problems, liver or kidney problems or are on dialysis.

Taking other medicines

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Always Atakand exactly as your doctor tells you. If you're not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. It is important to take every day Atakand. You can take Atakand with or without food.
Dose for Hypertension:
The recommended starting dose and usual maintenance dose is 8 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 16 mg daily. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled after 4 weeks of treatment with 16 mg once daily dose may be further increased to a maximum of 32 mg once daily. If the current dose is not achieved blood pressure control should be considered an alternative treatment strategy.
Treatment should be adjusted according to blood pressure response. The maximum antihypertensive effect is attained within 4 weeks after beginning treatment.
Use in the elderly:
It is not necessary initial dose adjustment in elderly patients.
Use in patients with intravascular volume depletion:
In patients at risk of hypotension, such as patients with possible depletion may be considered initial dose of 4 mg.
Use in renal impairment:
The starting dose in patients with renal impairment, including patients on dialysis is 4 mg. The dose should be increased gradually according to response. Experience in patients with very severe or end-stage renal impairment.
Use in hepatic impairment:
In patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment, the recommended dose is 2 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted according to the response. There is no experience in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
It has been shown that adding a thiazide-type diuretic such as hydrochlorothiazide or additive antihypertensive effect with ATACAND.
Use in black patients:
Antihypertensive effect of candesartan is less in black patients than in non-black patients.
Dosage in heart failure:
The usual recommended starting dose of ATACAND is 4 mg once daily. Increasing the dose to 32 mg once daily or the highest tolerated dose is done by doubling the dose at intervals of at least 2 weeks.
If you take more than the dose Atakand
If you take more than the prescribed dose Atakand, contact your doctor or pharmacist
If you forget to take Atakand
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. Just take the next dose as usual.
If you stop taking Atakand

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Other possible side effects:
